Yesterday I rec'd a lovely gift from a friend of my husband - he is a collector of signed books, mainly first editions. This one is "Kaffee Fassett's Pattern Library" - Fassett is a well known knitting designer & artist who has worked for various fashion houses. This is a compilation that he did some years back. Many of his patterns look like quilt patterns moved into the knitting realm - so that's pretty interesting. Lots of beautiful colour and shapes, many are geometric classic designs. So I've been enjoying looking through it! Google has many photos!

So, I am actually supposed to be in Ottawa taking my son out to dinner for his birthday (20 years ago this afternoon I held him for the first time) right now. However, he got hit with a pile of schoolwork and asked us to call it off. So, we'll be going up at the end of term when he has about a week off between exams and the start of his co-op job. Sent him some money and told him to celebrate with his buddies instead. Beer will likely be involved.

I was thinking beyond the situation with the "girlfriend" and just his living situation in general. To me that falls beyond mild anxiety or depression. I don't know what the criteria is for a moderate mental illness though.
Oh, the situation is certainly severe. My experience with mental health unfortunately is that if you don’t have a specific diagnosis, you are on your own. I trust more in private/ church initiatives , but unfortunately, there is only a thrift shop and a small food bank in Banff. I have contacted the UCC minister there, and that seems to be all there is.

I gather he has no official diagnosis. Sort of assuming borderline personality disorder, or similar? BPD rarely accept their diagnosis, anyway, even if they get it.

Never thought of borderline disorder, but I don't think so. His temperament is rather slow and even, more like sleepy. His ideas and plans are all over the place, but he rarely pulls through. Our marriage councillor had the theory of adult ADD and after reading some literature, I do agree. He also has sleep apnea, which he had never treated.
I just met another adult who told me his story of ADD and he confirmed me the symptoms, saying something like- ADD/ ADHD can make life challenging, but if it prevents or hinders your life it turns into a disease ( which in my ex case it certainly has). My ex has refused the thought of something being wrong back when we separated, according to him the problem was that,” I just wasn’t nice enough to him”. I don’t know if his insight would have improved with age, he basically hasn’t talked to me since.

ADD seems to be under recognised from early childhood on. ADHD gets far more attention - probably because it is more disruptive.
For a while they were the same diagnosis, that's likely why. Similar to how Asperger syndrome is no longer diagnosed, it's all part of the ASD spectrum.

@ Carolla ------ Kaffe (pronounced KAY) is a quilt and fabric line designer as well. He loves bright and busy patterns and colours.

Apparently I was over-estimating my productivity. Quilt is closer to being finished but not there yet.

Going to have some garden fresh parsnips for dinner. I hope they are good! I didn't get to them before the ground froze in the fall. There is a tiny bit of grown on some, something I heard is to be avoided for harvesting carrots in the spring - can negatively affect flavour.

I had signed up for a photography course from the "Livelong Learning Program"- = for seniors (which kinda start at 50). Had an excellent teacher at the first session yesterday and I am looking forward to next week. Have to play around with my camera a bit on the weekend.

and our spring break draws to an end. 2 weeks-I read 4 books, made 1 quilt top, started oven mitts, went to a kangaroo petting farm, and skieed a few times. 2 bike rides. I had bigger more productive plans but they didn't happen. My get up and go wasn't there. Did my 3 month bloodwork for diabetes. My numbers are high Darn. I have been very disciplined with my exercise but seems that I must really limit my carbs again. I see dr. Thurs. (we can get lab results on line)

My numbers were a bit high 3 months ago. I had been quite sick in the fall so we didn't worry about it. I have been very disciplined in my exercise last 3 months but numbers rose further. I am still on 3 metformin a day.

I love that you have 2 weeks for March Break. I've always found that one week was just not enough to really regenerate - it often would take our family a few days to slow down from the usual hectic pace (and it was a lot less hectic than some!) then a few days to enjoy, and next thing you know you're ramping up again to get home & get back to usual routines. Glad you got to do some of the things you planned!

And sorry your bloodwork was high again.

Spring is almost here ... I can sense myself coming out of hibernation & hoping to be more active & healthy too. This winter was definitely NOT one of my best & I will make different plans for next year.

Your first winter being retired, right?

I think many people find it a challenge.

And you have had a lot on your plate with church happenings, too.
