Today we travelled to BC - tried that new discount airline SWOOP - it was great! We flew out of the much smaller Hamilton airport - it's definitely a basic space - maybe now with all the SWOOP traffic through there they will upgrade it a bit. We got some free coffee & muffin tho at the departure gate as today was the airline's first flight to Cancun. It was a very early start to the day for us - up about 4:15am! The flight was excellent, and the air was very clear as we crossed the mountains - so much majesty to admire. The sun was shining as we landed in BC at Abbotsford airport. Easy drive up to Squamish where we will for a few days. It's like SPRING here! Warm front & clear - beautiful for at least tomorrow too. Looking forward to celebrating our daughter's birthday with her tomorrow - 35!! Hard to imagine.
Best wishes to your daughter!
I envy you for the weather...

This morning my mentor and one of my best friends passed away in Rio, at the age of 74.
He was my boss and a second father for 6 years and taught me most of what I know today both professionally and personally. He was one the most generous persons I know, both materially and spiritually.
Such a difficult day, of that kind we never expect to come. I hoped he would live enough to meet my child(ren), to visit me in Canada...
I'm deeply saddened.

In the picture below, him, our secretary and me (Summer of 2014).

Losing a mentor is difficult. I find there is generally a lingering feeling that you didn't learn all from them that you could have, or maybe you feel you don't quite measure up. But there is also the gratitude that you had the opportunity.

Sorry you have to get this news while you're so far from Rio, Giancarlo.

Over the last few months of eating healthy, working less, moving more, I have lost some weight.

I for a while was wearing jeans that I regularly had to tug up as they slipped. I found a belt and wore it with them. Then my casual pants, (khakis) started slipping, and i did the same jig , and eventually, though it didn't have belts, figured out i could cinch with a belt. My dresspants with their waistband weren't so bad, but, they were quite baggy.
I found a pair of pants that I wore on my canoe trip with @Tabitha that fit nicely, also a pair of yoga pants, and a stretch pant that l now felt comfortable wearing out with a long shirt, but still my jeans, and dress pants were too big.
I realized when i forgot to wear a belt one day, and experienced as I was walking in the house with groceries that my pants were falling off, that I needed to do something.
Blouses fit better, and I have gotten rid of all blouses of one size. I had a bunch of the size that i currently wear, and a few a size smaller.

So, while in the US, I took time to do some shopping of the sale racks, and picked up dress pants and jeans that were significantly smaller (2 sizes).

Project continues to downsize and get back to where I was a few years back, or better, but, feels good to note it.

My weight is running a bit higher than it was and I'm still working out what's wrong. Haven't really changed anything. Exercising on about the same frequency. Diet hasn't changed save during my vacation. And that seems to be the issue. I'm not really losing what I gained on the ship.

I have no idea what has happened to my weight since coming to Korea. Up? Down? I have no idea. 1/2 the time I don't know what I'm eating.

Congratulations Pinga. Good to read that you are 'shrinking' slowly but steadily. I too have been putting in more effort about body weight. Always thought I ate reasonably healthy choices but was slowly gaining. Some is because of a particular medication. Some is because I love breads! Some is because my pulmonary condition rules out vigorous exercise. So I have been eating less carbs and have gone down a pant size but have only lost a pound. Not totally sure I understand that but I'll keep on trying.

I find Chinese diet generally helps my weight. We've gone back to eating more of that since Little M left (he's not crazy about a lot of Chinese when it comes right down to it) and it did seem to help at first. That said, I don't know what day-to-day Korean diet looks like, only the restaurant food I've eaten here (bulgogi, kalbi, and the like). Maybe it's different.
