She smoked most of her life. She had a heart attack years ago though, trying to think when that was, over a decade now. After that she never picked up a cigarette, didn't even having a 'last one' knowing that's what it would be. My Grandpa is not a smoker, so no concerns that way.
The thing I've heard of is she doesn't want to have to be connected to a hose. Just the hindrance of it. I understand that, no one wants to be connected for that long to something if not necessary. I also have a pretty good idea of what COPD feels like and on times when I have felt that fatigue and breathlessness, a hose is way less restricting.
I don't really know more than what I have said. They currently have no home care but do have relatives coming over to shovel snow & mow the grass.
