On friday, I had visited my dad and taken him to a doctors appointment around lunch time. He wasn't happy related to the appointment but such is life.
In the evening he called to tell me he needed new shoes. I said that I would take him shopping on Saturday.
Saturday morning , he called.
"Thanks. You must have slipped in while I was asleep"
I am confused as I hadn't. "Sorry, what?"
"They're great. Really like them. Great shoes. Comfortable. Thank you" .
My mind is spinning. What?
"Yup, put them on, they're great."
I said. ""OK, shall I see you later? " and the conversation ends.
I am left wondering.. Did he ask someone else to buy him shoes? His feet are hard to fit. How on earth?
Later, I go to visit him.
Arrive at the home.
Look at his feet.
They're his black shoes. Been wearing these black shoes or his runners for a long while.
Sit down and he is telling me how comfortable these new shoes are.
D'oh. It's just his dementia. He had forgotten he had these shoes though he has been regularly wearing them.
"Glad you like them, Dad."
