chansen If you want him to crawl teach him how to crawl up stairs. Then crawling has a reason and he will be motivated (Trust me I'm an OT)
 
I'm not sure it's a necessary milestone, though I appreciate the suggestion, especially from you.
 
I have heard of kids skipping the crawling stage and going straight to standing so I don't think it is a concern. That said, I know where @Tabitha is coming from. When we finally moved into the house, Little M was all in for climbing stairs.
 
One of my kids had an outside wedding - on their acreage. It was delightful. They rented a big tent in case of rain. The young couple organised the whole thing - bride's parents paid for the white, lacy dress. Friends supplied the pig and bbq'd it. Various guests brought requested items for the feast.

They arranged some chairs in rows with a central walkway. First people to walk down were the biological mother and grandmother of one of the couple. The father couldn't be there. Followed by groom and parents, then bride and parents.

The weather was wonderful. The food was excellent. The kids in attendance claimed it was the best wedding ever!
 
Sounds great Kay! The wedding we went to on Friday was great! It was a beautiful bluebird day - the Ontario humidity disappeared, and not a cloud in the sky. The service was lovely - presbyterian minister who is a friend of groom's family. Grandparents on the groom's side were able to be there despite various health issues - which made it more special for them, although it was a bit of mission to get them moved around the site! Cocktails & outdoor games followed the service :-) Yup - games! The couple love to be active, as do their friends - not the stand & chat type - so there were various outdoor games set up & lots was going on during the cocktail time between the service & dinner. All the formal photos had been done prior to the service - so that was great - no disappearance of key players! Reception was in the barn - what a great location! Beautiful to see all the wood and huge beams, strung with lights & even a chandelier! Dinner was tasty. Speeches were mostly short & interspersed, so that worked well too. Although it did get mighty chilly once the sun went down - so we all had to dance a lot - they had a great band! - to keep warm :-) Although some in the new family do not drink or dance, they too certainly seemed to enjoy themselves. A memorable day!
 
I am home after a week of camping which was just what I needed. Rest, relaxation, reading (3 books finished), puzzle (1000 irregular pieces, friends helped on the last sections), campfire singing with old & new friends, beach days, long talks, walks and beautiful sunsets, oh...and food that kind of flowed with offerings from various people being added to the mix. I was thankful for my spouse delivering and picking up our trailer and ensuring it was fully setup.

Now, the world is hitting though.....
a volunteer item that I felt was important enough to break my "one-year before I commit", which includes being on a board now which decided to have a retreat the week after labour day, plus a working group that is also having meetings
a friend requesting lunch to discuss pending retirement
contract work raising the timeline again
Dad stuff
business items for my son's business and mine related to our websites, etc
and, .....just catching up.

My question for you all is....are you seeing that the first week back is rather zooey -- ie, lots of "oh my goodness, it's September, time to get everything going"

Sounds like a great camping trip Pinga.

Last month I both started attending a new church, and went back to school for 2016-2017, so I got going again in August. :)
 
Yes the first week back is always a doozy for me. This year I've added 2 hockey player/high school students. One fro Taiwan and one from Switzerland, the school my office was in has closed-but our new offices won't be ready until the end of the month-problem is my computer in the old school can't talk to the system as the hub in that school has been shut, and I'm off to an out of province wedding next weekend. Yes Sept. is HERE with a vengeance.

Kay - that sounds like a great wedding. I don't understand why so many people put themselves so far in debt to have weddings costing $10,000 (or so).

Re Chansen and crawling - when I went to Teachers' College backin the dark ages we were taught that crawling and/or creeping as babies helped the child to learn to read - something about the left-right movement of the arms and legs. I dare say that theory has been tossed to the wayside.

Pinga it sounds like you had an excellent break from the strain you've been under. Don't forget the ball game!
 
One of the daughters refused to crawl until she learned to walk ... then she was up and out of her crib in the midst of the night ... and demanded her sleepers be put on backwards so that she could do it all herself ... bath room morals?

One of the grandchildren refuse to say a word until they managed to express things better than some humans who are lost distributing words that they don't understand (some persona don't understand many words ... and sometimes these words are described as god and extremely disseminated ... a kind of Semite icon ... to be redundant!

Wedding costs add up quickly. Yobo and I had a simple wedding. The rehearsal and service were at my Baptist church. The officiant was my pastor. Friends and family donated such services as wedding planning, photography, videography, and music. Yobo and her best friend made all the flower arrangements. We did have a reception - 100 people attended and enjoyed a dinner at $17 per plate. Despite that simplicity, our costs still ended up being over $10,000.

Yup! The calendar is filling up rapidly, after a very relaxing summer! It does seem to go like that in September - so I'm trying to be a bit discerning about my time, re-entering the busyness as gradually as I can. That said - I'm off to a three hour meeting at work this afternoon - it's a monthly thing, but at least I get paid for my time! Presbytery ctee meeting tomorrow afternoon - so much for my two "days off" this week!

Your camping trip sounds brilliant pinga - I hope you'll have opportunity to do that again. And so wonderful to have a 'set up guy' :-)
 
@Luce I love it when you write clearly. Then we all know what you mean!

I do not know about crawling and reading but crawling does help develop the shoulder girdle and necessary skills for WRITING! ( I do know that old theory tho Seeler) That said many children do not crawl-kids that are blind for example-it is safer and more efficient to bum scoot-that way their legs hit obstacles before their head does.

That was expensive Jae. If you food cost 1700 what were your other major expenses?

That's a good question Tabitha, I honestly don't know. I thought about that a bit as I was posting earlier this morning. The food cost $1700, the flowers were a gift from a wholesaler, the cake was a gift from a restaurant. The cost may or may not have included a return-trip plane ticket for my Chungmon'm (Mother-in-law) from and to South Korea.

A lot of little costs added up. We bought a gift for each person in our wedding part, and a nice bracelet for our middle son. There were some other things as well. In any case,my point was just that the costs for even a simple wedding these days can easily reach $10,000.
