Hah, so, to add to my travels, just found out that my nephew's big graduation party from highschool is the last weekend in May, so instead of heading home from Newfoundland, looks like I will be heading to Northern Wisconsin. Checking route, it looks like through Ottawa and to the Sault is the nicest route. hmm, good thing I am retired and my car is in good shape. Looks like a lot of miles are going to be put on it. (Note: in the Midwest, high school grads are a big family and friends event)

Oh, Carolla, YOU get to fill your nostrils with "new baby smell", a scent craved by once-Moms everywhere...lovely.

Since it's my "at home" day today, I'm making scones, so you get to try the first batch virtually. Old cheddar, toasted walnut. They'd go nicely with a cup of dandelion citrus tea, which I have on, or just a nice Earl Grey or a mug of Fair Trade, organic Dark Roast, also available.

Thanks for the baking & tea Bette! Yes to the "new baby smell" - I just have to get over the nasty cold that is clogging up my nose first!! Don't want to take them any nasty germs. The bassinet is almost ready for painting - and I'm glad to see that the weather will be warm enough on the weekend to get outside to do that. Today I got the foam to make the mattress, and yesterday I got a lovely bumper pad set that I will modify to fit the bassinet ... it's coming together :-)

Wow, did I get lucky.
Yesterday, I took my car in for servicing in prep for the drives coming up. As part of the follow-up, I neded wheel nuts tightened after 100km, so popped into the shop after a lovely drive to Elora.
While I was sitting in front of the service bay, I turned off my car, then decided to put it on accessory. The key wouldn't turn. I wiggled the steering wheel. No luck. I checked it was in park, wiggled the column. No luck. I took the key out, and put it back in upside down, no luck.
The service guy came out and I told him my predicament. He tried, did same routine. No luck.
He went in to get a technician. A senior guy came out. he tried. Did the same stuff that I had done. No luck. Key would not turn in the ignition.
He said it could be a couple of things -- 1 was inexpensive, the other not so inexpensive. --- basically, the key was worn out, or I needed a new ignition.
Went with the parts guy to my house to get the spare key.
Luckily it worked.

I tell you, had that happened tomorrow, when sitting at a rest stop on the side of the highway, it would really have sucked!.
Luckily it happened in the service bay.

Some days are lucky like that! I'm happy you didn't get stuck somewhere.

Once I took my car in to have a leaky tyre repaired. Paid, thanked the staff and took off. Decided to pop in for a cup of coffee with a friend who lived on my way home. Pulled into the yard thinking the car was handling a bit different. Friends hubby, a mechanic came over as I was climbing out and we chatted idly. I mentioned that I'd just had a tyre repaired and the car felt a bit weird and he sent me in for coffee and said he'd look at it. A few minutes later he came into the kitchen looking pale and upset and poured himself a cup of coffee. He asked where I'd had the tyre fixed because the wheel wasn't attached to the car. There WERE some nuts there, completely stripped of threads, and they were the wrong size for my car!

I was incredibly lucky that the wheel didn't fall off on the highway before I got to their yard.

Brian phoned the tyre repair shop and hung up saying they'll callback - and they did. Apparently the mechanic had a habit of putting the nuts for the wheel he was working on in his overalls pocket. On this day he was working on two cars and pulled out the wrong nuts. They were tightened with an air powered wrench so he didn't notice that they were getting the threads stripped off!

Wow, that is scary, KayTheCurler.

I once had that wobbly feeling with a big old Dodge Polaro (1971?) on the expressway in a local city. It was a tire coming off. Didn't realize it at the time, but, cautious about wheel nuts since.

PS. that car was lovingly called "the boat" by my friends.

I sometimes wonder why there aren't more road accidents. Seems pretty amazing to have cars whipping along in the other direction just a few feet over. One of my kids once asked how the yellow line kept the cars apart.

Trust Kay - and faith in the power of the yellow line.

I've wondered how folks with anxiety drive a car. I would think that there would be moments of panic regarding the yellow line, or say, 6lanes on the 401.

Well, I was up early and am just reading wondercafe2 before I hit the road. (I've decided to do a leisurely drive. Packed my book, and will likely pull over in Michigan at a nice rest stop for a read and relaxation of eyes. Trying to shift from the pedal to the medal driving and arriving tired.

Anxiety ... the power that causes some people to ask why they should understand strange things ... like the healer called Strangelove ... them strange people that would like to know!

But you cannot tell this to the general population that have be religiously battered by the concept of not knowing things of ankh is best ... thus the Ankh snowjob ... and many people singing in a heated commotion ...

It has been determined statistically that if bad news was on the horizon ... approximately 85% of the population say they would rather not know ahead of time ... and thus loss of prescience ! Kind alike blind fore sight!

Michigan??

Something to get around or over ... like life itself ... it is not virtue-us ... just more of the same bo'ale ... some say phoales ... a type of hoers, or carriers on intellectual material? One time known as a Colt ... carrying a silver bullet? As haute in the dark ...

I am going to wisconsin for a wedding this weekend. Then, I come home and head to Washington DC for 5 days, then I come home for a week. I then head to newfoundland which is looking like just over 3 weeks from start to finish, then head to wisconsin again for a grad party taking place on may 28th. That takes me to the end of may before I am home.

I will be happy to be home in june!

Have a great trip. Don't forget to load up on cheese when you're in Wisconsin.
