Feeling a wee bit more 'with it' now - thanks for the well wishes. I phoned my son to ask for a ride to see a doc (hubby is way with our wheels). Son said he could be my taxi in the afternoon. Phoned the doctors' office and grabbed an appointment with a doctor I'd never heard of or seen around town. Once there it was then usual routine - pee in a cup - wait for the doc to write a prescription. I slept most of the morning away but I'm still tired. This too will pass!
Makes me wonder about Maple - or other similar services. Private telehealth. I thought I had seen something where it was going to work with at least some of the provincial health plans too, although when I tried searching for it more recently it didn't come up.
I'm not a fan of where things are headed with the private aspect that way, but if you actually had to use a taxi instead of your son it might be cheaper.

I checked the obits and I'm not in that space so I must be out and about .... what? I'm not sure yet but I have acquaintances that are definitive!

Thus their word must be law with some reaction ...

I don't think I've heard anything about Maple or private health services. I'll try to do a bit of research later. Not sure how I would have got urinalysis and antibiotics using an online system.

I find typically for UTIs antibiotics are prescribed before urinalysis results are back. I ended up in the emergency room one time for internal hemorrhaging from a UTI before (it can happen fast for me, probably connected to HAE) and I got a call that I really needed to follow up with my doctor because there were very concerning results - and they were just lost, so even with that I still had the usual treatment.

The prescription gets sent to the pharmacy, you can pick or a delivery option is also offered.
I'm not sure if requisition forms are offered, those can be faxed to a specific location or emailed and printed off.

They won't offer service for things where controlled medications are needed, a physical exam is required, emergency treatment is needed, etc.

I could see phoning a service like that for advice (Should I go to ER or wait it out?) Can't see trusting a total stranger to happen on the best antibiotic for me.

You wouldn't be willing to see the first available doctor for a UTI? I don't see a huge difference regarding telehealth vs. a walk in. I find generally I can't see my own GP same-day. At the university clinic we weren't even able to have a GP, it was all walk-in basis and while specific doctors could be requested, they didn't work there every day.

If you do go to the ER, isn't that a fairly random doctor too?

I think if you sort of know what's up with your own body, you can circumnavigate the in person system, i.e. say I have such and such symptoms, I've had this before, "x" drug has worked in the past. But if you need confirmation, because you don't know, or something is different - more/different pain/symptom, then phone or on line health less good.

I would say it depends on the problem. I've had a number of doctor appointments where no physical exam is indicated. Even for a first time UTI - there's not much that's done in the moment, urinalysis takes time and antibiotics are usually started first.

The time where I could feel a deep lung infection and was coughing up blood and the doctor did nothing for me - I think I would have really considered using it then. Dragging myself to the doctor wasn't worth it.
If the service can't help with a problem, they don't charge - or at least that particular company doesn't.

On Saturday, I am part of a fundraiser....where we are selling purses (vintage & designer), and tea & scones -- it is called "tea with bold bags. hah - not my name

Anyhow, I am one of the folks making the scone dough. I am making 150 scones, which are frozen for saturday.

I was concerned about getting any hair in the dough, and was trying to figure out what to wear -- a scarf - slipped off, a hat, didn't keep the hair in.
I looked in cupboards and drawers for idea when I saw them -- a pair of grey pantihose!
Sure enough, slipped the panithose on my head and no hairs are slipping out!

So, there are some of the best scones that I have had, the dough is so tasty...(a friend found the recipe)
I am putting them out with some homemade strawberry jam.
These ones are cooked, and hot out of the oven - enjoy.
and if you find a hair -- it isn't mine!

I think with a name like that I would be disappointed if many of the bags are black!

this image made me laugh so hard! Can just imagine it pinga - brilliant solution! Did you take any photos? Did the family arrive home and give you a second look? Still chuckling!!
That's a LOT of scones - and I bet they will be scrumptious!!

Edit - and I'm thinking about Crazyheart laughing out loud too - she would so appreciate this vision!

My latest verbal spew, aka short story, is in a competition that closes today. Probably be a week until the announcement comes but I've got a good vibe from this one. Some very good writers on the site, including past competition winners, have praised it in the comments. Alas, it's on a site that I can't share here due to subject matter (yes, I write erotica, though this one hews more to romance with the erotic part confined to the ... um ... climax).

That's exciting Mendalla! When do you anticipate decisions by the judges?

The owner of the site always puts it at a week from the deadline but it usually takes longer. She always seems to underestimate the number of us who will enter or something. And, of course, the judges have real lives outside the site. They aren't employees, just volunteers like our Council.
