The 416/ 905 split was a big thing. Early 90's maybe?

The Six is now one of Toronto's nicknames. And both 416 and 905 have overlay area codes
So does 519 where I live. Just ordered a new cell number and it's 226. I think there's a third one down here now, too, but forget what it is.

As for when the 416-905 separation started (416 = what was then called Metro Toronto, 905 = surrounding areas), I thought it was late eighties because I moved to Hamilton in '89 and I am pretty sure I had a 905 number even then. (In fact, I think that's another one I might still remember now that i think about it. Just doesn't come to mind as readily as the old family number.)

A1 offers that the 416/ 905 split took place in 93/94. Apparently it took several months to fully implement. I remember a lot of PR about it.

Interesting. So maybe I changed my number in Hamilton in one of my moves. I had three different places in the time I was there.

Or maybe kept the same number with a new Area Code. THat is what happened in Alberta when it was split into 2 (403/780) in the late 90's. My parents number (which I am sure I will remember on my deathbed since it has been the same since 1975) did not change, just the AC.

Cambridge was formed by amalgamating: Galt, Preston, Hespeler and the village of Blair.
Galt was a 519-621-####, Preston was 519-653 and Hespeler was 654, and those numbering continued to be assigned for years. If you tried to find someone living in Cambridge, who had a number from when it was called Galt, you had to do the search by Galt. Bell operators also were unaware, so they would say "there is no one by that number living in Cambridge", then you would say, "please check if you can find one in Galt (or preston, hespeler). Took a long time to get that fixed.

If you lived in Preston with a 653 # you could phone Kitchener, Galt, Hespeler for free
If you lived in Hespeler with a 654, you could phone Kitchener, Preston, Galt & Guelph for free.

Hespeler numbers were a hot commodity for businesses.

Story 1: When I worked in the courthouse in downtown Kitchener on a summer job, they actually had a line in the building for making local calls to the parts of Cambridge that were long distance.

Story 2: When I worked for Wentworth Libraries in the 90s, one of our branches was in Sheffield, Ontario. While it was politically part of Flamborough township in Wentworth Region, Bell had it on a Cambridge exchange. I assume it must have been part of Cambridge or one of its constituent cities at some point and got politically switched. We to relay their data lines (Centrex data, which was a tariffed service) through our branch in Lynden to avoid long distance charges.

Yeah, the whole phone situation around Cambridge was a bit of a mess.

Good Morning! Hope your Thursday is starting well. I do remember a few phone stories of mine I could tell, but will likely pass. It is fascinating, though, to ponder how the phone seems to alter and shape our living. Anyway, the Room is ready to host our conversations once again, so let us gather round the Coffee Cart, for conversation, story-sharing, support, and community over tea, coffee and snacks. The Baker has supplied us with bear claws for our enjoying. The tea water is boiling, coffee is freshbrewed, and goodies are warm and ready to consume. All is ready, all are welcome. Come and join in the fun!

Is there a con verse, or is it all silently laid down?

Ummmm....am I more confused than normal.? I woke up thinking today is Friday. Must have got it wrong.

A black hole passed the Earth overnight and the gravitational distortion of our local spacetime rolled time back a day. :alien::ROFLMAO:

Or Red copied and pasted and forgot to edit the day.:giggle:

And I didn't even notice.
Einstein stated this about abstract items (in the dark) ... like bumps in the night whisking away your thought patterns.

Incidental moments of inertia to get things stirred? Thus we meet alien things in the cosmological mess ... resembles kinetic theory if you kin recall ...

Remember those times out there? No ... maybe tue in tense ... Freudian stretch ...

I thought I'd start our taxes today....but the Canada Revenue Agency on-line site is not available. So, I did what I could, and now....the other task I dread...I'll clean the fridge.

I thought I'd start our taxes today
Wow. I haven't even got any T slips yet, even my T4 from work. We usually start in March at the earliest since it usually takes a while for all our slips for investments and such to come in.

Good morning! The weekend has arrived. Here, it is cold, snowy and blowy; hope your weather is better. We think about tax prep season coming up, look forward to more spring-like weather to come, and maybe even start on summer holiday schemes. Meanwhile we gather in spirit once again around the Coffee Cart, for conversation and support,, as well as hot beverages and baked goodies. Today we have received brownies and squares from our Wonderbaker to enjoy. The tea water is boiling, the coffee is freshbrewed, and the brownies and squares are warm and fragrant. All is ready, all are welcome. Come on in an join in the chats!

Woke up to a cold house. Apparently the furnace got bored and decided to take a nap. Resetting the thermostat woke it up, though. This house takes its merry time to warm up but we do have a space heater. We are using our down comforter so I didn't even notice until I got up. (and Mrs. M still doesn't know since she's still in bed). The thermostat is set to increase the temp around the time I get up and I noticed that the temperature was lower than it should be and that it wasn't coming on.
