Other drivers are the issue here. Firstly, the people who grew up on the island have never gotten enough snow to learn to drive in it properly, or to take it seriously. Secondly, there's enough people from places like AB who have the skills and vehicle to think they're bulletproof in the times of snow that happen here. I was driving along the road doing 50 or 60 in a 70 zone (it wasn't too bad) and came upon a white knuckler crawling along the road. A pickup came roaring up from behind. That's the thing that's scary here, other drivers. I'd like to think most people are okay at least. You just need one or two to make life um, interesting.

We have a Rav4 with good tires and we have the skills. We've driven in Lake Effect storms and in the frigid north.

There wouldn't be enough time for practice here....... and that's a problem.

Thus we observe many are mentally a skewed ... as if some of us out of the ordinary didn't take notes!

Even stabilities? What's that ... irrational ... populaces are good at ide ...

Hydro is a word for water ... in essence people don't believe it gives a lift until they try it at high speed ... got to be forward and brusque ... then knocked square ... but alas one is not allowed to declare that to driving authorities that are self driven ... don't speak of it; they don't want to know!

Squaring up take on a whole diver smash ... stupid? Know that's something else ...

@chansen Your pulley system reminds me of how we used to get hay into the hay mow before we had a hay elevator. Hay was laid out on ropes on the wagon, then tied up like a package that was lifted up up up, moved along a track and then tripped to dump at the appropriate spot. It was so fun to watch.
I'm aware I invented nothing there. I used to lift those tires by myself, up the ladder. One close call a couple years ago and that was it. No more trying to be the hero. I have a strong daughter. She can hoist them and all I have to do is push the trolley towards the wall and unhook.

@Waterfall car is long gone. Didn't hold car seats well. Replaced by a Dodge caravan, then a 4 door Toyota Corolla, finally a 4 door basic Nissan Sentra.

Did a major step up when i bought the BMW m550i . It's a nice car to drive and feel better having the grandkids in the back seat than the Sentra

Neither do we, we moved in 4 years ago....when rents were low, anyone moving in now pays more....my mind is working overtime on that one.
Sadly, a landlord looking for an excuse to free up a unit and raise rent on it is not beyond the realm of possibility here. It happened to one of my staff (the old "we want it for a family member" trick). Get your ducks in a row, esp. things like the db levels you mentioned, but maybe start looking for options, too. If they really want you out, they can find a way and the LTB is so backlogged as to be next to useless, or so I hear. Someone needs to boost its resources and tighten up the Landlord & Tenant Act.

Doesn't everyone use pulleys and trolleys in their garages?
If you had either my father or my sister involved, there'd be lots of pulleys. They are Cat's favourite thing. We had a closet door on a pulley system for car tires. 2 stacks of two, car tires are much lighter, so even I could manage. Bikes on pulleys. Hummingbird feeder outside kitchen window is on a pulley.

I thought we were safe because when we moved in it was one of the higher ones, now it's one of the lower.....I agree, they need an overhaul at the LTB, but I guess we see how it's played out because right now it's just a suspicion.

And remember legitimacy means nothing today from the authorities that teach you what can be broken ... especially by those that have always been up there ... beyond the loess and sordid matter ... that's the dirt on humanity and its purity ...

My weird Wondercafe2 moment of the day. On my home from work, I was listening to the album Yesterwynde by Nightwish. One of the tracks is "The Children of 'Ata", about a true story in which 15 Polynesian boys stranded on an island became a functional, cooperating community instead going feral a la The Lord of the Flies, thereby kind of refuting the premise of that novel. And when I first heard about the song being on the album, I knew that I knew that story already. Tonight, as I listened to that song once again, I realized why. I remembered this thread from 2020.

Yep, I knew the story because I myself started a thread about it here. It only took me over 2 months to realize that.

Good morning! Winter Wonderland showed up here overnight. Very breezy too. Hope things are better where you are.
Snow tires and batteries, risky driving and cancelled busses, all the things that came up yesterday, and all the new stuff that today will bring, we greet it all from the Coffee Cart, where we join for conversation, support, and coffee, tea, and doughnuts (not the parking lot circles). Coffee is fresh brewed, tea water near to boiling. All is ready, all are welcome. Drop by when you have a chance!

Power outagea last night.
Bad accident closed highway 24, so we cancelled our plans and came home and puzzled

Puzzled .... life is often enigmatic like that. Like Polynesians forming communities while the Atl*antic's generate chaos and conflict ... may be the addle'n ...

I'm going to sound like your mother...." Why were you even driving last night?"
It wasn't bad here. I drove down our windy road no problem and up and down our hill

Main road was relatively fine.

My guess is someone was driving for conditions and someone else got impatient

Blowing snow but not much new accumulation yet. Road conditions suck around the region and a couple sections of 401 and 402 are closed. Haven't left for work yet and might just work from home. Supposed to get worse later, with more squalls.
