rainy day today (is that your influence Luce NDs - you mentionned "wet") so I got the taxes all done. Used simpletax.ca for the second year & really like the programme - way more intuitive to use than others I've used in the past & has the pension splitting feature that some others do not. I also like that it's the brainchild of some savvy young Canadians!

Carolla,
That's quite sharp of yah ... I still get a retired accountant fried to do our taxes as he juggles the income splitting for the best effect ... the programs may not yet do that.

You do know of whet stones to grind dull edges ...?

Yes - I so know of whet stones ... have sharpened lots of chisels & secaturs & other tools in my time :-)

Alas - I have no accountant friends .... but I do think some programmes do a good job of it for simple folk whose accounts are not overly complicated - at least I hope so!

Even Jah Zues had Matthew-in ... all sharpened up as the universal accountant ... or have you noticed this accounting for things that come at yah out of the pas ...?

We've been using studiotax (it's free) and it seems to be doing a good job once we take the human error out of it. :/

The wind here in Ottawa is so bitter and so cold. The thermometer tells me it is 3C but I am sure it feels much, much colder. I don't remember spring "breezes" being so cold, ever. Feels more like November 8th - dull, over cast, freezing rain/snow and that wind. Ugh.

Someone told us that every seven years one should get a professional to do one's taxes to be sure one is getting the best return. We've never done that because ours seem so simple although with my medical expenses there's probably a better way to split things up.

Installed UFile (been using it for years and like it) but haven't started yet. Should get going soon because I have three to do this year (me, Mrs. M, and Dad's final return).

I use a retired accountant, an old family friend, to do my taxes, as well; he always did my mother's, as well. I have a rental unit that he accounts for, as well as taking maximum advantage of credits, and giving me free financial advice.

It's rotten and rainy here, as well. I put the dogs off in the morning, and again at lunch, making them go out to the fenced backyard; they got a quick nip around the block while my dinner casserole was cooking, and man, was it miserable walking against the wind. I have to go out again, to a breathing class (how have I managed this long letting my body breathe all on its own, lol?), and I do not wish to leave my nice warm dry house...

*Bette freshens the woodstove with a couple more logs, puts a saucepan of mulled cider on top.*

Going to have another long medical day tomorrow. I'm really hoping that it isn't for nothing!

3 deaths in my circle of friends in the last 2 days. One I know quite well, one used to attend church here but just moved to the coast, and the third is the ex husband of a friend (and also used to be minister in town) I'd never met him. My thoughts are prayers going out to all their families and friends. # lives that were 2 short. 3 men who holy-it just hit me-1 licensed lay worship leader and 2 ordained ministers the United church will feel their loss.

oh my Tab - that is a lot to fathom in such a short space of time. Thoughts are with you and your friends' families.

Thanks! I've already paid $200 for this split between the surgeon and my doctor, so much for free health care!

Tabitha, that's a lot at once. Hopefully you'll have some down time for what ever you need the next little while.

Tabitha, odd, we just had a few church deaths as well..but most were older women (late 80's and 90's). Good point re easter In our case, they were ready. Thinking of the churches who have lost elders/ministers.

My cough seems back with a vengeance. I know cause...too much work. I know reason for too much work. I am also aware of stressors that are not about workload which I have succumbed to and totally ignored my healthy eating and working out. I haven't said, but I am sure you folks have figured it out, that I am in a serious backslide. The comments re patterns and behaviour re church attendance hit home for me in physical health.

I'm looking forward to seeing my sister next week and spending time with an ex-manager who is a good friend. The rest of the week, not so much..

chemgal, take care of yourself, and I'm hoping your hospital visit goes well.
