Well, that's a sad bit of news to end the year on. TV actress Betty White has died at the age of 99. From Mary Tyler Moore to Golden Girls, and on down to Hot in Cleveland, which just ended 6 years ago, she was a fixture on television for almost as long as I have been alive. I, and probably many, was rooting for her to make the century mark, which would have happened on January 17, but it was not to be.

She seemed to hit a certain age and then just stpp aging. Certainly didn't seem like someone in her 90s which makes it a little more shocking.

"Thank you for being a friend" was a hit for Andrew Gold, its writer, in 1978 and came back in 1985 when a cover by Cynthia Fee was used as the theme for the series Golden Girls, which featured White as one of the leads. Lake Street Dive covered the song last year and released a video of that performance in salute to White this week.

I loved how Betty White could get laughs with just a look.
The image of her with the lego is just perfect.

She had lived a good long life, but, I am sorry that she didn't hit 100 and we all would celebrate her and she would be made aware once again how wonderful she is

Goals are fun. My rev's mom died at 102, and for her 100th birthday, she demanded (and happily got) a party with 100 desserts.

You need to look at your parents, though. My parents died at 77 and 80, so although I have an auntie and uncle in their 90s, I'm not predicting an overlong life.

Depends. Betty White's situation yes. She was doing well. There was a bit of concern about some decisions being made for my great grandma, if it was to prolong her life to 100. I don't think it was the case but the concern was stated at one point. She really wasn't doing well when she died at 99.

Yes, some people are luckier in old age than others. Both of my parents were quite intellectually competent, but their bodies, from various life/health complications, had clearly given up. Both of them seemed to float quite gracefully into death.

It appears one cannot have longevity and intellect as intellect is a target for those that don't wish to no or Nu in past tense as the stress departs ...
motive Asian as portions east of you know where ... medias? Thus media is controlled by monsters ... generally not that sapient ... inhuman? That's out there defining OBI! Many lose it ... as one part of the dipping before the quench ... heated exchanges ...

She was doing quite well until her late 90s, especially considering she was told not to expect to live past the age of 10 at one point. She also had a badly injured knee as a child and was told not to expect to walk on it. She always used a cane as far back as I can remember and then later a heavy duty knee brace, walker and wheelchair got involved. She also got out of an abusive relationship and had a pretty wonderful 2nd marriage. I think she enjoyed the majority of her senior years. Her last few years were rough and she complained a lot before hitting that point to her children when she was moved into a senior's living facility- she was one of the oldest yet complained everyone there was 'too old' Her grandkids/great grandkids were told it wasn't so bad. I think it was just a bit of a hard change on her by then, first my great grandpa had died and she did end up with heart surgery before she got moved there and her vision was quite bad at that point. She seemed to be still enjoying life for the most part, just frustrated with declining abilities. Not Betty White level of active, but pretty good for 90.

Another bright light departs and the world fades a little more. I loved Betty White, especially in the Golden Girls which I am rewatching on Disney+ she was the mainstay of that show and always brings a smile to my lips, I will remember her fondly whilst I make my way to her Golden age.
