BetteTheRed -----your quote -----So, the point you are making is that if I think the same as you, a "Spiritual Person", I will not see the ugliness in this particular story? Your answer to the "cruelty" charge is "God knows best"? Why would it be recorded this way?

unsafe says ------No---- the answer is that we humans screwed up and God the Father out of his Agape for His Creation Sent His Only Begotten Son to rectify what we did and to bring us back to where we should be -----you see the cruelty because you are blinded to seeing the Agape side of it ---Satan has done a good job of hiding the truth ----The Problem is we worldly humans think we are all that and we have everything figured out but what a shock many will have in the end when they go before God ----which is a sure thing according to scripture -----

unsafe posted scripture
Philippians 2:8-11 (GNT)
8 He was humble and walked the path of obedience all the way to death—
his death on the cross.
9 For this reason God raised him to the highest place above
and gave him the name that is greater than any other name.

10 And so, in honor of the name of Jesus
all beings in heaven, on earth, and in the world below
will fall on their knees,

11 and all will openly proclaim that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father
.

unsafe says -----NOTICE ---here it says -----all will fall and openly proclaim ------This is a Promise ----- So do it now or do it later is our choice -----but the thing is ----We will do it ------So keep up BetteTheRed with your worldly thinking while you are here if that is your choice ---you will know the real truth when you pass from this realm -----I have made ny choice

Thanks be to God for sending His only Son to shed His Precious Blood to die on the Cross so all could be reunited back to Him as it was meant to be in the beginning -before we humans screwed the system ------

Would human stupidity regarding their neighbours because of God's representatives directing the populace to not know any better and act on emotions aone ... screw the intellect?

I suspect there should be some balance in the scales of the monster ...

30 years on earth , did Jesus only preform that one deed in 30 yrs? , Betty's view of Jesus as exhibitionism, cruelty, random/biased is not consistent with His 30 yrs on earth

Please read my words more carefully. If you look at the context, I was looking at this single particular event. But you will note that it's the only documented case of a resurrection from death in the gospels. This ONE event doesn't look good on Jesus.

Let's drop this "worldly" and "spiritual" distinctions, please, because I don't see how they're useful.

So, Jesus, knowing that Lazarus will die before he shows up, because he's God and knows these things, decides that he'll make the grieving sisters wait 4 days instead of 2, so that the body is good and dead smelling, and it will improve the visuals of his miracle.

How loving does that sound to you? Why did the gospel writer present this miracle in this fashion? What was he trying to prove/display?

Obviously, I meant outside of Jesus' resurrection. Is there a third? I thought that Lazarus was the only resurrection from death. There were lots of miracle cures, all gospels, of course.

Centurion's daughter, maybe? Was she actually dead when Jesus healed her?

is it? what about the daughter of the centurion, what of His own ? the central figure in all 3 is , Jesus did It

Depends on how one reads into it ... there are layers hidden there due to those not seeing beyond the face of the metaphor! Tis demon ish to some that wish it one way when the Golden Rule is duo able ... ad uos 've a thing ...

Like God here .... and then gone ... fickle passions?

Next we turn to Chapter 17 beginning at verse 11 to chapter 18 verse 14. This is the story of Jesus feeding 10 lepers and only the Samaritan thanked him. Although there are stories of Jesus healing lepers and other Gospels, this story is unique to Luke.

Next we have Luke inserting a few lines about God’s imperial rule.” You won’t be able to observe the coming of God’s imperial rule. People are not going to be able to say ‘look, here it is!’ Or ‘over there!’ On the contrary, God’s imperial rule is right there in your midst." In my opinion, this is an affirmation that the kingdom of God, or realm of God, is near at hand, growing in our midst, and not something far in the future.

In chapter 18 Jesus reminded people there will be times of suffering, as in the days of Noah, and Lot’s wife.

Jesus then spoke about prayer and told the parable of the unjust judge. This is another favourite of mine.
I admired the stubborn woman who was determined to have justice.
And then, to remind the people of the need for humility Jesus told about the Pharisee and the Publican who went up to the temple to pray.

Today’s reading; Matthew 17, and Mark 10.

It is easy to see why these two readings were put together. They begin with almost parallel stories of Jesus teaching about divorce, Jesus and the children, and the rich young man. There are of course minor differences, i.e. both say that there should be no divorce but Matthew inserts an exception if the woman is caught in adultery.

Both Matthew and Luke continue on with Jesus talking with his disciples about the difficulty of the rich to enter the kingdom of God. Here we hear the phrase 'easier for a camel to go through the eye of the needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God'. The first shall be last and the last first. This is a further teaching on humility. This concludes chapter 17 in Matthew.

Mark continues on with a short paragraph in which Jesus predicts his death in Jerusalem.

Then, surprisingly so soon after this discussion about how the last shall be first in the first last, James and John go to Jesus with the request that when he comes into his kingdom they may be permitted to sit on his right and his left. Jesus must’ve been very disappointed that this request. Obviously they had not understood or observed his teaching about humility.

Mark concludes this chapter with the story of the healing of blind Barabbas.

Blind Bare ABBA's ... demonstrate how the brute powers can ruin am'n ... and power destroys intellect and wisdom ...

You can see this not happening (un-doing) all about us ... depending on your position of power ... it may jolt your resting psyche ... thus we unravel ...

I think you meant healing 10 lepers -----this part has of this chapter is very Spiritual in nature ------Knowing how this disease ties in with how sin is in our lives is needed -----Leprosy is a vivid and graphic physical picture of the Spiritual defilement of Sin ----Sin is ugly ---it is loathsome --it is incurable without Christ ----and it is contaminating -----it separates people from God and makes them outcasts -----

Similarities Between Leprosy and Sin

Similarities Between Leprosy and Sin - Ministrymaker

Leprosy is a life-threatening infection mentioned in the Bible over 45 times. Leprosy was used as a powerful illustration of the devastating power of sin in our lives.

1. Sin numbs us to our condition. Leprosy causes damage to sensory nerves making the skin numb. As we continue to sin, we become more calloused and hardened to its affect on our lives.

2. Sin leads to death. As leprosy progresses, the lack of sensation leads to fatal tissue and limb damage. Likewise, sin causes people to make bad decisions often leading to disaster.

. We can’t hide sin. People with leprosy can’t hide their disease. Likewise, the actions of people trapped in sin eventually become obvious to those around them.

4. Sin produces outcasts. Lepers were driven from their homes and made to live outside the city. Like lepers, afflictions like drug abuse and alcoholism can turn us into the dregs of society.

Scriptures:
1. Leviticus 13:44-45 – “The leper who has the disease shall wear torn clothes and let the hair of his head hang loose, and he shall cover his upper lip and cry, ‘Unclean, unclean.’ He shall remain unclean as long as he has the disease. He shall dwell alone in a habitation outside the camp.”

2. Matthew 8:1-4 – “When He had come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed Him. And a leper came and worshipped Him saying, ‘Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.’ Then Jesus put out His hand and touched him saying, ‘I am willing. Be cleansed.’ Immediately his leprosy was cleansed. And Jesus said to him, ‘See that you tell no one. But go your way, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.'”

3. Luke 17:12-19 – “And as he entered a village, he was met by ten lepers, who stood at a distance and lifted up their voices and said, ‘Jesus have mercy on us.’ When he saw them he said, ‘Go and show yourselves to the priests.’ And as they went they were cleansed. When one of them saw he was healed, he turned back praising God with a loud voice and fell on his face at Jesus’ feet giving him thanks. He was a Samaritan. Then Jesus said, ‘Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine? Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?’ And he said to him, ‘Rise and go your way, your faith has made you well.'”

Sin, like leprosy, destroys us and leaves us in a state of hopelessness. The good news?

Isaiah 53:4-5 – “Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by Him, and afflicted. But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities. The punishment that brought us peace was on Him, and by His wounds we are healed.”

unsafe says ----
The Spiritual lesson of the 10 lepers -----Notice ---they were there in the village when Jesus entered -----they ask for mercy ----He took notice of them and answered their plea ----gave them instructions ----they obeyed and were cleansed ----only one gave Thanks who was not a Jew but a Samaritan who showed his gratitude which gave God the Glory -----he valued God's Grace and Mercy more than God's own people ----

This shows when we have faith and confidence in the power of Christ and we do as He instructs we get the results and should have an attitude of Gratitude for what He has done for us ------

unsafe says and posted ----this is a great depiction of one being grateful and the others showing their pride - arrogance and ungratefulness for what God did for them ----grumbling -- complaining and wanting more ----and many of us do just that -----we are never satisfied -----

unsafe says ----this teaching about the eye of the needle is all about Salvation -----Jesus is the eye of the needle through which all enter the Kingdom of God ----rich --poor ---slave ---Greek ---Gentile -----No one comes to the Father except through Jesus -----

unsafe says ---the teaching -- the last will be first is and the first will be last in Mark 10 is also about Salvation ----those who diligently seek worldly possessions will never rightly value Christ and His Grace -----

unsafe says and posted scripture -----if your heart is in this world then it can't be with God ------

Matthew 6:21 (GW)
21 Your heart will be where your treasure is.
