Resolution - to read the Bible

I've read the first 15 chapters of Exodus now - familiar story (reinforced by the Hollywood movie 'The Ten Commandments'), but it is holding my interest. Some observations:
- Moses father-in-law is referred to by two different names. Was this a mistake in copying ancient manuscripts, perhaps from different sources? Or did he, like Jacob/Israel, have two different names that could be used at different times.
- The strange incident related in Exodus 4: 24-26. It doesn't seem to make sense. God has chosen and called Moses. Moses obeys and follows God's directions, setting off for Egypt to confront the Pharaoh. When he stops for the night, God confronts him and threatens to kill him. He is saved when his wife Zipporah circumsizes their son and throws it down at Moses feet. Nothing further is said about this matter at this time. I did look this up in several on-line commentaries. They all seem to agree that God is angry because Moses failed to have his younger son circumsized as required by all Hebrews. God spares his life when Zipporah does it for him.
And who is this younger son? In my reading thus far I've only found reference to the birth of one son, but it does mention that Moses took his wife and sons (plural) with him when he started toward Egypt. The commentaries all seem to think that he may have been born within weeks, or even days, of the family setting out.
- later I found myself searching for information about the time the horse was domesticated. While other animals (sheep, goats, donkey) are mentioned, there is no mention of horses until the Egyptians pursued the Hebrews with horses and chariots. Yes, I found that horses had been domesticated and used for both riding on and hauling carts by the time of the Exodus.

Where will this exercise lead me next?
Airclean--post --Seeler is there anyone help you?

In University or was it the Kergyma course? We used o'neil's one volume bible commentary. I find it helpful!

not according to Jesus when he spoke to Nicodemus a Jew who was a Pharisee and a member of the Sanhedrin mentioned in three places in the Gospel of John

John 3:1-21

what does that tell you ?
It tells me that Jesus was talking to Nicodemus before Jesus died on the cross. Where was the Holy Spirit?

you can read it in scripture

Infilled, born again, born anew, new spirit in you, regenerated man, ect all same

Supposing I told you that I have been infilled with the Spirit, that I am born again, born anew, (or as my favourite Bible reads 'born from above'), that I have a new spirit in me, and I gave you my testimony - would you believe that I am a Christian? Or would you look for something more - perhaps how I live my life, love others, follow the example of Jesus, show the fruits of the spirit?
Actually I find that some of those who claim to be 'born again' show very little of the spirit indwelling within them. But it is not my job to judge.

I know nothing about you nore did i ever ask if you are or not, im simply pointing out what Jesus has to say on the matter since waterfall has been asking, , Those who have ears to hear , let them hear. if you wish to share your Testimony of being filled with the Holy Spirit, its your choice to do so.

Your opening post (#9) implied that I was in need.
I still don't have the answer to how one is to know how a person is infilled with the Spirit.

I implied it because I had no knowledge if you were or not , did you Miss my apology in post #12???????? or did you over look it ?

furthermore all , including myself need the Holy Spirit in Gods word, which again is what Scripture teaches

Jesus commented on not coming to destroy the law but to fill it thus we are inflated with delight ... there's got to be another side to this bubble ... perhaps in the Wynn-NG ... non-governmental ends? Chaos continues ... ad continuum ...

Excess emotions can overinflate ... thus busts of fati ecce nature ...

Back to reading the Bible.
Today I read Exodus 22-24 - In chapter 21 (read last evening) we find the Ten Commandments given to Moses on Mount Sinai. The next few chapters seem to be explaining and expanding upon these commandments. Some of the laws are very sensible and would apply to any group of people living together at any time. Some seem quite dated for people living in urban or suburban society in the 21st century. I am not likely to be concerned about my ox goring another persons ox, or my livestock getting into someone's vineyard, whether it by my ox, or sheep, or donkey (no mention of horses). But I suppose the same principles would apply if it were my dog fighting with your dog, or my teenage grandson getting careless about property lines when he tries out the new ride-on lawnmower.
I did find one passage troubling: Ex. 22: 29-30 - You shall not delay to make offerings from the fullness of your harvest and from the outflow or your presses. The firstborn of your sons you shall give to me. You shall do the same with your oxen and with your sheep: seven days it shall remain with its mother; on the eighth day you shall give it to me.
It would be easy to ignor the middle sentence - nothing more is said about this at this time. But ????

Tabitha - do you know if the O'Neil's Commentary that you mentioned is available on line?

"from the fullness of your harvest"

Grim reaping's considering the respect for the mother-father spirit ... poly misinterpreted from the 6th command due to power corruption?

Thus the lowers tiers ... complex digging ...

Yes, Blackbelt, I saw it and I appreciated it, but then you seemed to be agreeing with airclean's uncertainity about whether I have the Spirit indwelling in me. Sorry if I miss understood some of your posts.

Anyway, this thread is not about my spirituality but about reading the Bible. So far I'm enjoying it and feeling enriched.

I'll be leading worship for the next two Sundays so I might not have as much opportunity to read ahead and to comment in length. I'm glad that I'm ahead on my reading - I hope that I don't loose ground so early in the year.
