Careful with the trimming, guys. There's a line between soft and bristly.
There's also a line between soft and "hermit who has lived in a cave for eight years". Not that I am that bad, yet, but if I leave it much longer I'll be getting into "Jesus Beard" territory. Or even RevJohn territory (to be fair, I haven't gone there in quite a while. He was probably still active here the last time I had it like that).

My wife, bless her, would want me to grow a beard. She would suggest it every so often because of the poky bits. My face was bad at producing a beard--the first time I tried it in 1987 I ended up looking kinda like Shaggy from Scooby Do but with bits of beard "fungus" here and there lol

So eventually I tried and wow, it worked.
And from then on it became my wife's beard :3 Both of us would correct people whenever they complimented my beard as to whose beard it is :3

And the old guy always had a pretty full Santa Claus type beard, except the odd time that his mother metaphorically tied him down and trimmed it to nothingness.

I've been there
When her beard starts trying to absorb random children is when I know it is time to trim :3

My late old guy had a nephew who had a beard, really full and bright red, that reached to his waist. He tied it in a knot, often.
My dream beard is that of Finnish bassist-singer Marko Hietala during his time in the band Nightwish. He wore it quite long and it is quite fine and blonde. He used to do it up in two long, thin braids. Since returning from a year-long break from the music industry (including leaving Nightwish), he seems to have stopped the braiding. However, the resulting freak-out from Mrs. M probably wouldn't be worth it.

Great musician. Great beard.

A lot of the Indo-Canadians here have gorgeous, trimmed, well maintained beards. Some of them shine in the sun like unearthed anthracite

'Tis the season when you don't really know what to wear. I'm doubly challenged much of the year, as if I'm off to work, it's to the grocery store, which tends to be kept rather too cool (for good reason). So nice handknit wool sweater to work this aft (it was still only 11 degrees just before noon), too hot when I got finished work at 4:30.

Is it colourful? :

Oh, my, it's a total rainbow (background of heather, with stripes of navy, gold, tan, brown, crimson, burgundy, green(s)). Big guy found it for me in a thrift store, it's a total hand-knit, several different, but compatible yarns (wool, a bit of silk, some acrylic, a band of mohair), a cabled neck, and it had a little hole in it when I got it, so I took it to my sister, having safety-pinned the stitches together, and she actually re-knit a little panel of it in a slightly different yarn, now making it totally unique.
