There is a really interesting analysis on the BBC website which looks at the impact of Trump's decision to move the US. Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

Are you able to post it?
Sorry I haven't been able to find the link again. The information and analysis on the BBC gets overwhelming.

The relocation of the US embassy to Jerusalem could merit a thread of its own. I surely didn't pay enough attention back in 2018.

Thanks for trying.

Trying to avoid politics on this BPoTW thread. But honestly, it is all so intertwined.

Fascinating that the protest (organized by a Jewish group) covered by Broadview wasn't picked up by mainstream media. At least, I didn't see it.

Lets not forget that Joe Clark looked at moving our embassy to Jerusalem. That was in the seventies. So this is hardly a new thing. The main difference is that a major Western country actually went through with it in the US case.

i remember him

had a nickname for him

He eventually got what he wanted

I hope he was satisfied

What did he get that he wanted? Got de-elected so fast it made our heads spin? Because the embassy never did get moved. It's in Tel Aviv to this day and I have never heard any musings from Ottawa about moving it ever again. I think Clark's experience has made pols a bit gunshy about the idea.

I almost like that one better than Joe Who, the one he got tagged with in the media.

He seemed to be someone who wanted to be PM or taken Seriously and always, always, always was ignored by the popular kids...that was my impression at the time...

and what is the Canadian embassy like? a bunch of Mounties constantly apologizing? :3

what is the Canadian embassy like
The usual. Embassies are pretty much all the same. An ambassador who meets other ambassadors and Israeli officials. Some economic development and other officials promoting Canadian business, helping businesses do business in Israel, and that sort of thing. Teams of officials to handle visa applications, citizens needing assistance, passport applications from Canadians living in Israel, etc. Probably very few Mounties, in fact.

One of Joe Clark's claims to fame was that his wife kept her maiden name. Remember that?

This practice became very popular for a time but it may be on its way out again.

But I digress. This has been a great BPoTW discussion. The passage is rich in meaning and timely, too. Thanks for participating or reading along.

In some traditions conversation is intercourse and other demand mute! Holy absence or abstract ... so it went ... to escape the mess ... Maria?

I've always found the tradition of changing one's name a bit archaic. I've never done it. It's not the norm in Quebec. It always implied possession to me and that never sat right.

Possession is how the brute forces impress total freedom on the enslaved parts ... and in extreme states of freedom avarice roams ... control thyself! Some mutual attachments are even damned in extreme controls so they function in dark and mysterious ways ... beyond those nous ed by false comptrollers ... loups in the law said to be sheepish? Them's dark ... and can make your nights harae! Some same haram other Aries ... like knowing the words to pick and choose!
