Painting by words. Yet another tangent.

As mentioned, I do sometimes use image generators to generate covers for my stories. Especially with my more fantastical works, it is sometimes the easiest way to get a good image that fits the story. This is for a longstanding work in progress that may not see the light of day for a longtime, but I used it to try out Google's Imagen 4 image generation through Gemini. A couple problems that I could probably fix with refining prompts:
  • The woman's clothing is too modern given the story takes place in an late Medieval-early Renaissance level of technology and society.
  • In the description in the story, the story is just under the surface, not hovering above it.
That's just me being careless with my prompting, though. Based on what I gave it, it did a good job.

Prompt said:
A woman stands with her back to use looking out over a small lake. The lake is surrounded by a tropical rain forest. In the middle of the lake there is a glowing globe giving off bright, blue-white light. A thin tentacle rises in front of the light creating a shadow.

It's more like a linguistics experiment than an art project. I wasn't trying to make art or replace artists, just testing how much visual information we can actually encode in language. The fact that it worked at all says something interesting about how we see and describe things
Imaginative descriptive linguistics to the AI from blind persons would produce some interesting art.

Dang, now that's some interesting thinking. And one wonders if it would be different coming from someone born with no or minimal sight vs. someone who was sighted and then lost it due to injury, retinitis, or other such causes. I smell a research proposal coming on (not from me, but from some psych or neuro types specializing in vision and vision loss).

Having loads of fun with chatgpt
I am finding it also useful to try on outfits to see how they would look on me :3
This tech is amazing, too

On the one hand, I kind of like this idea. Could see how I would look in some designer duds or even a dress.

OTOH, it means feeding my pictures to some AI cloud and who knows where they end up from there? Non-consensual AI-generated porn (yeah right, like anyone sane and not married to me wants to see me naked)? :eek:o_O
