Has to be approved federally by Health Canada so it can't be just one province. I am thinking it got passed by HC but not all provinces have it in wide use. I think Ontario had one they were going to use in LTC but I am not sure how fast it is.

Maybe it was the 90 minute one. I can't remember how long but she said she didn't have to wait long for the results (maybe it was next day or later in the day).

This is what I don't like about the essential/non-essential categories. Isn't it rather like having no peeing sections in the swimming pool.

It seems to me Alberta has implemented testing at Edmonton and/or Calgary airport(s). @ChemGal probably knows the answer to this.
Yes, the pilot was just at just Calgary and has expanded. There were still some restrictions on the travelers regarding an isolation period and it wasn't catching all cases. They are being used in the province more now too, but for those who are symptomatic, as if testing too soon they are more likely to give a false negative.

They are doing flu tests here, and last I heard not 1 confirmed case of seasonal influenza (there was swine flu animal to person transmission that was being carefully monitored, didn't spread to anyone else).

My daughter flew in to Calgary from the US some time back. She was tested at the airport and self isolated for several days. Then she got retested to know whether she was free to live her life or do quarantine.

My son works at a distant site and does one week on and one week off. His employer bought testing kits and upon returning to the work site they get tested. Probably not 100% accurate but it helps a bit.

There's been comments about if COVID-19 affected the young seriously more might follow the restrictions.
I think it is though
Not sure I understand what's going on here.....are you saying they're bringing Covid Patients into a children's hospital?

Right, the Stollery is the Children's Hospital of the University of Alberta Hospital. The main hospital and the Stollery are part of the same building. The 7 children ICU patients are being moved into the ICU within the Heart Institute Hospital (the Mazankowski), it's a bit separate from the main hospital, although it is connected, it's an add on and both adult and pediatric patients go there. The Stollery ICU has private rooms which means 2 visitors are allowed. There is a couch, so parents can spend the night and sleep right in the ICU room.
Here's a picture of a Stollery ICU room with the couch -

The Heart Institute does not have private rooms for the pediatric patients. This means each child now can only have 1 parent visit, not both. There isn't even necessarily a chair for a parent to spend significant time there, let alone something that allows for sleeping, like a couch.

Adult COVID ICU patients will be taking over the Stollery's ICU.

Absolutely stunning article in the globe today about our public health issues. Investigative journalism article. Long so can’t post it. Well worth reading about how we had a good warning system and it was sort of turned off two years ago. How the government has replaced scientists in the health department with civil servants. How is 2018 we sent a civil servant to a WHO pandemic meeting rather than the epidemiologist that needed to go

what a mess

sorry I can’t get it posted
