This is BC’s count since yesterday. In my region there are, by my deductions, 25 ongoing active cases.
That said...I have a looong story. Just a heads-up.
Today I went to Canadian Tire. I wanted to look at air filters. We need something like that, and they had a couple of types on sale, but only one of the sale types left. The more expensive one. I decided not to get it.
To get into the store, I waited in line outside, everyone six metres apart - so the line went all the way through the parking lot, to the road. It was raining, just drizzling at that point, and it was not very warm today. After deciding not to buy an air filter, I went past some masks. They were in a pack of 20, between $20-25. I picked up some. And some lemon Clorox wipes. I also got 2 peace lily plants. 1 for my landlords, one for me. They supposedly help clear the air.
I’m waiting in the check out line, and the floor is marked in 6ft spaces...and there’s a woman in front of me who keeps stepping half way past her line every time the line-up moves so she’s crowding closer to the person in front of her, and he can’t go ahead any further. I don’t get why people do that...why do they think that will move things along faster?
I’m punching in my non-tap pin in the debit terminal, and it doesn’t go through. I try again.
Then the clerk tells me that two of the buttons are sticky or sensitive and I may be putting too many numbers in because of that... My last try...it happens again...and I’m frozen out of my account. I have to leave the stuff there...they said they will hold it while I call my bank. I try five or six times, getting cut off each time, and finally speak to a customer service person for my bank. They look into my problem, then tell me I have to go to a branch to fix it, or else wait 7-10 business days for it to be unlocked. I explain that it’s raining, I do not drive a car... I got a “sorry, ma’am, unfortunately...” So, I ride 8-10 blocks in the rain.
I get to the bank and there’s another line. When the security guard lets me in through the first set of doors, a greeter questions me about whether I have symptoms or have travelled in the past 14 days or have had known close contact with anyone who has recently travelled. ... “No.” (sigh..but that might’ve been a good time to have one of those masks I had to leave at Canadian Tire.)
I have to pass Canadian Tire to get home, so I went back. The door person remembered me and I didn’t need to wait again. At least I got to warm up a bit. I come home, finally, eat some dinner, warm up a bit but I still feel cold and soggy. So, I decide to take a hot bath. I’m in the bath and I hear my landlord’s voices. Then, my roommate knocks on the door. She has a very quiet voice and I can’t hear her over the water draining. I throw my pjs on and open the door. There are three people in a 8ft square area. They’re down there because carpenter ants have come in through the upstairs sunroom and invaded my roommate’s room. (I figure this is a good time to crack open the masks, so I brought some out, but no takers at that time. My landlady did go upstairs to get a handmade one someone gave her.)
My landlord/ step brother got busy drilling, caulking and then sawing wood pieces to plug holes or something - the saw is in his workshop. Too much commotion...I go out for a scoot and can here the saw a block away

ROFLMAO: ironically, this is the person who’s sensitive to household noise). My poor roommate was just sitting on the couch for two hours waiting for them. They were going to make up a bed for her upstairs (our couch is narrow and short, not comforable to sleep all night on (I learned once), if they didn’t get it taken care of. Supposedly they have more to do tomorrow. I mixed up some peppermint Castile soap in a spray bottle for my roommate...Hopefully that sprayed around the room, and on the wall/ ceiling corner they came in from will help repel any that may still be in there. Eek. They kind of have to be down here to do that though. Chances they have active covid are quite slim. Chances of ant infestation keeping my roommate up at night until the problem is resolved - much greater, and therefore a health and safety risk of its own.
So far, no ants in my room or in the kitchen. I do get the odd spider, though.
