Novel Coronavirus

It's probably why it's mostly breweries and distilleries doing this. Many already use the alcohol they produce to clean things within their location, so things have been approved for sanitary standards. They are already covered for producing alcohol and they have methods to monitor it.

Well, I wouldn’t do that. I already figured as much. You don’t want to flambé your hands...or your hair. It’s the same for hairspray and some other hair products.
I think some people just don't think about what they have used. Spray on sunscreens and the bbq have been issues before.

Fears are being manipulated.

We have a terrifying example in 9/11 of how easily manipulated fearful people are.

There are many reasons to take prudent action.

There are no good reasons for fear and panic.

The fear being promoted has no rational basis compared to regular influenza.

More people have already died of influenza complications in the U.S. than from the coronavirus in China, Iran, and Italy combined.

WHO has what to gain by stirring this level of panic around this new pandemic?

After 9/11, a fearful populace not only supported everything the government wanted to do, they demanded more.

The Patriot Act, which did away with whole swaths of the Bill of Rights, was overwhelmingly supported.

Torture, offshore penal colonies, assassinations, kidnappings, sanctions and many more horrors - supported.

Fear is political currency.

Speaking of hand sanitizer and how to manipulate panic ...

Following fears of (the war on terror) liquid bombs, the TSA limited carry-on liquids to four ounces for ? years.

Yet because of corona, they just changed the limit for hand sanitizer only (actually flammable) to 12 ounces.

Can you believe this stuff ... considering the split in the absolute and abstract parts of the mind ... so as to bury the unconscious? We wouldn't wish to see it in conjugate form ... a period of down to earth (mire) learning may be required for sentient experience!

Then if you believe the soul-mind complex is gone ... that's another in situ state! A black 'olæ condition! Mam Ba's ...

At the very least ...

We will have been conditioned to new precedents of control over personal decisions, civil life, freedom of movement and assembly.

Whole city lockdowns and an increasing role for government and the military in health 'care' - New Normal?

In this 'virus-free future' ... virtual reality is the only 'safe zone'.

WHO is taking advantage of our fears for their own profits and self-interest?

Yep, if you want to find idiots with a doctor’s title on the internet, you will find them.

Dr Joel Kettner is professor of Community Health Sciences and Surgery at Manitoba University, former Chief Public Health Officer for Manitoba province and Medical Director of the International Centre for Infectious Diseases.

What he says:

I have never seen anything like this, anything anywhere near like this. I’m not talking about the pandemic, because I’ve seen 30 of them, one every year. It is called influenza. And other respiratory illness viruses, we don’t always know what they are. But I’ve never seen this reaction, and I’m trying to understand why.
[…]
I worry about the message to the public, about the fear of coming into contact with people, being in the same space as people, shaking their hands, having meetings with people. I worry about many, many consequences related to that.
[…]
In Hubei, in the province of Hubei, where there has been the most cases and deaths by far, the actual number of cases reported is 1 per 1000 people and the actual rate of deaths reported is 1 per 20,000. So maybe that would help to put things into perspective.

I'm really tired of the comparison of Corona with influenza being used to dismiss concerns.
I'm really tired of the one liners that are dismissing 'old' pandemic influenza concerns that were never addressed properly in the first place.

This has somehow led to this 'new' pandemic influenza resulting in this unprecedented world wide medical martial law.

Why now?

WE certainly have had 'outbreaks' in the past - as the doc Ritafee quoted mentions - not much that has been classified 'pandemic' tho.
It is an interesting thing to contemplate the 'why now' & 'what's different' questions, as we venture through this time.

It seems we (meaning the more broad societal 'we') have been infected with fear as much as with COVID - we need healing from both.

Negativity bias is normal - as we humans try to understand and avoid threats - so we may pay overly much attention to some information, and not balance it with other information. Add to that the constant media refrain of telling us to be afraid of basically everything. Creates a rather toxic soup.

Well, I wouldn’t do that. I already figured as much. You don’t want to flambé your hands...or your hair. It’s the same for hairspray and some other hair products.
NOBODY has flambed their hands or hair from sanitizer....the picture in the article was from someone that had an electrical accident.....which is why it was a false claim according to SNOPES.

But- Rita still likes to believe it is all a matter of air quality and a big international conspiracy.
What new pandemic influenza?
I suspect you are wondering why I am calling it an 'influenza' pandemic.

Seems to be a generalization for 'pandemics' that lead to respiratory related deaths.

... and we have multiple 'flu' virus pandemics - we just don't call them pandemic every time.

Not all the flu deaths that are recorded as flu deaths are really flu deaths are they?

It is a generalization ... to suggest that we have similar pandemics that are not being labelled as pandemics - but are.

Is this better ...
SARS-CoV-2 infection which is now so called 2019 novel coronavirus disease?

Why the ...
Unprecedented pressure being put on public health doctors and public health leaders internationally - this time.

Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO)
...

“This is a grave threat and a public enemy number one”.

Next
they say ...

“Because of a grave alarming quick spread of the disease and an alarming amount of inaction around the world

It is interesting tho to see many countries coming together less competitively and more cooperatively to tackle this current situation.

Here's a different article to balance off that viral doctor santitize your food video - Experts say don't be afraid to touch your groceries

And then just relax for a few minutes and listen to the Nelson family's words of wisdom - (and WOW - doesn't he sound like his dad???)

That's fine. I missed most of that conversation. I was just pointing out that I already have the common sense not to apply hand sanitizer right near the bbq or open flame.

Yeah, I hadn't heard of any instances either, but best to avoid a flame or other extreme heat source for a little bit after using. If it the spray type, don't do it facing a bbq!

"Just my neighborhood and me" ?

"Turn off the news and build a garden with me"?

Careful @Carolla ... your advice is bordering on 'treasonous'.

I personally have nothing but love for this ...

American country music legend Willie Nelson who got himself into trouble with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) when he used an illegal tax shelter in the early 1980s to avoid paying federal income tax - to the tune of $16.7 million.

and subsequently ...

In 1990, federal authorities raided his property and seized his assets, including his Texas ranch.

fortunately ...

They didn't make off with Nelson's favorite guitar, Trigger, which he made sure to keep safe.

after all that ...

Various efforts were made to settle Nelson's tax debts. Though he did earn enough money to mount a multimillion dollar tax bill, he claimed to be unable to pay the IRS what he owed, even after his legal team brought the bill down to $6 million in cash.

So then ...

Federal tax authorities auctioned off Nelson's ranch.

But a fan bought it and kindly gave it back to the singer !

Nelson released an album cheekily titled ...

"The IRS Tapes: Who Will Buy My Memories?"

The title referenced the scandal, but the IRS was involved with more than just the name.

So more than just 'freely' building gardens ...

Willy sets precedents by resisting 'authority' every chance he gets.

His is the first and only example of the IRS entering into a revenue-sharing agreement with a major recording artist.

This is a good example, imo, of how neoliberalism's privitization of health services has contributed to the spread of covid in care homes in BC - the "patchwork" nature of all the different staff with different employers and rotating to different locations.

Yeah but he's a multimillionaire. Net worth of over $30M. Why should he get off easy? (I like him but if it was any other multimillionaire dodging taxes while the lesser people are strained and oppressed you'd be upset about that.)

If it was someone whose music you didn't like that was a multimillionaire dodging taxes and living large...a rap artist or something...what would you think?
