Yeah, Chemguy brought that up with people at work only because I mentioned it. I don't think many people realize just how rough things can be. With the flu this past year my Grandpa ended up at a hospital across the city, and it took time to transfer him there. That was all because of the hospitals being overcapacity as they were hit hard by the flu. He really should have been in the hospital well before he was, but he sat at an urgent care clinic for quite a while.

In the end he did, but some of that involves the need for family to be there to push for things. Ie. one doctor requires him to be on something 2x per day - another doctors takes him off when it's necessary.
It's scary that we just can't trust the system to take care of someone without having an outsider overlook things. The more overwhlemed the system is, the worse that will be.
 
A couple of experts do agree with me.


Several of you were arguing that we live too long because of medical advancements, that places strains on health systems, and people who would never have lived, do so because of advancements and that is why we should have MAID. I argued vehemently against it. Now I think it’s an overreaction to shut down the world for a respiratory virus they can never catch all of because most people have mild symptoms and will not be tested...and you think i’m way off base. This world is whacked.

I am following the guidelines...but this cannot go on indefinitely like this.
 
I had three conversations in RL today. One is very concerned and diligently doing social distancing even at home with family. Another with a lot of experience thinks it’s overblown. And one who thinks it’s overblown but is glad not to have to do anything for awhile.

Who argued for that? I don't recall that argument.

This thread is about Covid and responding to it, not MAID
 
Oh a few ppl did. I recall. Not bringing up names. They said it wasn't natural, it's a new result of advancement and that the world is overpopulated and hasn't the resources to take care of everybody.

It's indirectly related, but relevant. And for the record, I disagree.

They wouldn't give ppl like my grandma treatment because she was too old. That made me sad. I thought it was wrong not to try. They wouldn't let Charlie Guard have experimental treatment. I thought it was wrong not to try. People choose made so as not to be a burden to their families, I felt that was wrong.

But they're literally shutting the world down because of this.

Erring on the side of caution may end up all well and good ... but this time ... I don't think so.

I am all in favor of your 'protocol' while 'managing' your 'health concerns'.

I am all in favor of protecting the most vulnerable and 'flattening the curve'.

I am not at all in favor of 'blindly following the leaders' some of WHO are not as 'expert' as they would have you 'trust'.
 
I'm not pushing for wide spread killing off of the elderly here but -how many of us would be here if it wasn't for medical intervention? My father would have died without the assistance he received from some Quakers (they fed starving kids). Later he would have died without surgery for a burst ulcer. I would have bled to death following the birth of my first child. My hubby's life was saved by a skin graft when he was young - without it he would have died from the inevitable infection. My sister only survived meningitis because antibiotics were available. My daughter would have died if emergency caesarians weren't used. My son would have died following an accident. Instead we became Seniors or potential Seniors!

Interesting you put 'protocol', 'managing' and 'health concerns' in quotes. Sounds like you think I'm either making things up or lying.... :unsure:

Same thing applies to 'flattening the curve'....
