Maybe. But I don't want to get it and give it to my SENIOR parents! I don't want to be forced to stay home even if I just get a cold! It would put me in financial crisis, and depression to stay home for that long a stretch at once. For all intents and purposes I live by MYSELF, and the only people who could help me are senior and need to look after themslves. Do you understand that!?
I certainly understand the issues. It's not just you and your parents who are the concern now, it's many people. Not just those of a particular age. Governments are working to try to keep the economy going, services going as much as reasonable while also preventing deaths.

Yeah yeah. Shut up. Who will clean my house and do errands for me? Buy food? Who will make sure I'm not in debt? Nobody. That's who. Shut up and educate yourself about poverty - that's part of public health (or public unhealthy).

And I have been helping when you asked questions about cleaning things, alcohol, etc.
I'm not questioning reasonable policy decisions - and deciding it's to control people - when they are being done to help people.

I'm sorry to say "shut up" but the marginalized are at more risk in several ways. I'm willing to bet that economically, more poor people without access to support - emotional, financial and physical - died already and are part of the overall statistics (like with viral pneumonia and other infectious diseases). I don't think you are seeing this clearly.

What exactly am I not seeing?
What have I said that supports that?

And actually, many of the "marginalized" are better off than you think. My homeless son lives in a tent with his dog. He has a health card, so he can access services if he needs them. Otherwise, he's at pretty low risk. Young, healthy , happy.

Kimmio - I hear you (I think). Your concerns around practical things like cleaning, shopping, meals, losing money if you can't work are very real. There are counselors available by phone. A few phone calls would probably find the groups that are offering to help those who are struggling. In my area the Kinsmen are available for picking up food, driveway shoveling, and other essential assistance. The RC congregation have said they are ready to help if they know what is needed. The Salvation Army are trying to ensure that no one goes hungry. Reach out sweetie.

Here's the Government of Canada's current statistics on the COVID 19 virus in our country:

7 in Calgary happened from one family gathering. ~40 people were present, including someone who had returned from overseas. I guess they thought it was ok because it was under 50?

A serious case of Covid-19 would be the obvious answer from context.
Not necessarily. I'm at higher risk than some here too. I'm probably equal risk as Bette and Mendalla or maybe some a few years older than them, even though I am a bit younger. I don't have perfect lungs. If I fall moderately ill, have no help, and fall down, I'm f***ed. I have more secondary risks of death than most (but not all) people here (in fact, that's true everyday). But I'm still more wary of the "process" than the virus.

Just for argument's sake ... are the homeless more or less expendable than yourself?

Why would you think that? I'm concerned about vulnerable people. Homeless people are most definitely vulnerable. What are you doing for homeless people?

True. The homeless die in greater numbers than this. But over 65 year olds in the world generally, have more money and status/ power. Just look who's in charge.

That's a huge generalization. I can assure you that when I'm over 65 I will not have more money or status. I am not in charge. Do not lump us all into one category.

Oh, don't pull rank and use that as an excuse to stifle criticism or healthy skepticism

Pull rank????

Don't be an ass and suggest I don't care about sick people because I question this worldwide lockdown, when the vast majority have bad colds!

This is not just a bad cold. f***. Have you not read anything. Of course those of us over 60 are more vulnerable so it's okay. We're in power and rich so better to get rid of us to let others lead. Right.

For f*** sake I'm the one here against MAID for non terminal illness! ...s**t...people are full of it.

bulls**t. You seem okay with this because it mostly affects older people who are expendable anyway. Seems to be a form of euthanasia. Because it's nature taking its course, that's apparently okay.....

[QUOTE="Kimmio Laughterlove,
No it's not the same thing! I am against euthanasia in people not terminally ill. That doesn't mean I want immunoconpromised people getting sick! Jesus Christ.

What is it people want from our health system? To die on demand or shut the whole f***ing world down over a variation of a common respiratory virus? Do you even know what the rate of influenza deaths is? And that's a virus that has a vaccine and a mitigating antiviral treatment. By all means be careful.

Shouldn't everyone be more concerned - objectively - if this was killing kids at higher rates than the elderly? That would, in reality, be more alarming wouldn't it? Shouldn't it?! That doesn't mean anyone wants the elderly to die!

Of course you're angry and scared. These are scary times. Our freedoms are being curtailed and we are being grounded essentially. It sucks. Please don't take that anger out on us. Reach out to your supports and talk to someone. (We need a hug emoji.....)
