Novel Coronavirus

Welcome to Wondercafe2!

I'm going to leave this discussion for awhile. It's kind of pissng me off.

There are millions more people at risk and vulnerable because of this virus but not from this virus itself.

Media?

They're not reporting on flu deaths or deaths by other infectious disease in those populations, are they? It's wall to wall corona virus, nothing else.
Perhaps because they have attained a modicum of control and we've had years to study them. We have vaccines and treatments in place...but because we do not know this strain of particular coronavirus, mass containment and social distancing has become an option that we haven't had to resort to for a more known strain that is familiar. As you know, it seems they are still on a learning curve with this one, and every day seems to bring more information.

You're pissing me off. We have a member here with a family member who is seriously sick and under the magical age of 39 that you posted.

The UK have added Pregnant Women to their list of people to be considered vulnerable.

Oh, don't pull rank and use that as an excuse to stifle criticism or healthy skepticism. Fk that. I'm just as concerned about Matthew as you are. He is more vulnerable because of the severity of his CP. I get that, we all get that. Don't be an ass and suggest I don't care about sick people because I question this worldwide lockdown, when the vast majority have bad colds! Nobody wants a bad cold either but I and numerous others question these moves and motives. You are oblivious to politics and social justice and the vulnerability of the marginalized, but you are hyper concerned about all things health. There needs to be healthy awareness of both...of all of it!

For f*** sake I'm the one here against MAID for non terminal illness! ...s**t...people are full of it.

And that family member still falls within the 'senior citizens and people with preexisting health conditions' who have been hardest hit by the global novel coronavirus. So vulnerable regardless of whether a virus is new or not ?

Kimmio i get you are scared and worried. And you are one of the vulnerable people that we all worry about. I hope you take some time and talk to someone about your fears. Maybe your minister?

money will potentially be an issue. For you and a lot of people who live more or less pay cheque to pay cheque. My kids are luckier. They know that if they start losing hours of work we can help them out

i think we get a lot of things mixed in this kind of discussion. Yes there are people dying around he world. And yes they deserve our help.

this new disease is different. It is rampant. Today I listened to a medical person who said quite matter of fact that most people will get it. 4% will die. That’s alot

hospitals run the risk of having to triage care for lack of beds and lack of equipment. No one wants to make that choice.
the best we can all do is try to keep to ourselves. To not spread this around so while people will get sick and need hospital care hopefully not all at the same time

this is not a conspiracy. The government isn’t out to get us.
but you move from scared to annoyed. I think that’s pretty natural. You are scared. Talk to someone. Not here, where words are typed and conversations are stilted. But in person. it will help

Because of the 'government solution' to this virus ... I agree ... maybe even billions more are at risk.

The nine most terrifying words in the English language are, 'I'm from the government and I'm here to help.' Ronald Reagan

No those aren't in normal times, that scary...depends what department, too. Reagan was scary himself.

But the overall response is beyond weird. People should, imho, maintain some healthy skepticism while staying safe from illness/ being careful not to get others sick. Don't throw all skepticism to the wind (amazing how quickly people have) because this cannot be a new normal for very long. That would be instant dictatorship if they can just cancel everything anytime. Think about it. It's not good.

To me it feels like a big fire drill to see how much they can manipulate and control people, and the movement and gathering of people, and especially, protest - with sort of "rolling blackouts" to the economy. Online gatherings can be monitored and voices shut down in ways that protest cannot unless people are forced to stay home. The citizens of the world are restless (Chomsky wrote a book called The Prosperous Few and the Restless Many...just reminded me).
"The crumbs that were permitted to ordinary people had to be taken away. Everything had to go to the rich."

I'm not allowed to discuss it with my step brother upstairs because he wants to pretend nothing is happening. They live in la-la land all the time anyway. My parents are seniors and concerned for their own health. At work there's no time. Church is cancelled, home group will likely be cancelled and my next counselling appt will probably be cancelled because the counsellor commutes from the gulf islands part of the week.

I will have my own opinion, thank you.

Yes, there is something wrong with this picture! And marginalized people have every right and reason to be as concerned for their lives, even if it's for different reasons, as you do for yours, FFS! We are just as important as you! Don't be priveleged jerks!

(This is how the bourgeoise can let society get real bad, real fast.

Being skeptical when things are starting to head authoritarian in pockets of the world...even noticing that will get the bourgeoise to label you paranoid. Because it doesn't affect them.

But when it's right upon us and the world is shutting down, these common variations of human are now conditioned not to believe anything is suspicious. It's strange indeed.)

Perfect storm. :(

The Ontario Chief Medical Officer of Health has now specifically asked churches to close.

Also libraries, private schools, daycares, bars and restaurants (except for takeout.)

Kimmio specifically said it spares those under 39.

You accuse me of being hyper concerned yet look at the types of questions you're asking me. You're being a total hypocrite.

Maybe. But I don't want to get it and give it to my SENIOR parents! I don't want to be forced to stay home even if I just get a cold! It would put me in financial crisis, and depression to stay home for that long a stretch at once. For all intents and purposes I live by MYSELF, and the only people who could help me are senior and need to look after themslves. I have next to no help with anything. Do you understand that!?
