"Regardless of whether you like May or the Green Party, she ended up as one of only two voices for hundreds of thousands of Canadian voters who voted Green in the last election.

For every one Green voter there are ten Conservative voters, yet for every one Green Party seat there were one hundred and sixty-six Conservative seats after the election. Even if we accept that discrepancy as a quirk of the system, must even the tiny voice remaining to half a million Canadian voters be so openly disrespected in their own parliament system?" --- my nephew

Perhaps the harpee is the harper in the state where there is little conjugal relationship between the spirit of the people and that of the inflated authority ... haute fur her?

Every socio-political system we have ever had as the human race has failed us dramatically. Canada, like the rest of the world, is now sitting on the verge of complete and devastating financial meltdown with catastrophic results for its people. If we do not begin to explore a brand new way ahead for our country and humanity we will surely destroy ourselves.

The Canadian economy and natural resources have been plundered by greedy international corporations, supported by reckless and ignorant politicians, with no remorse or any real accountability to its citizens. Our economy has been hijacked by international bankers who have been granted complete freedom to financially cripple every Canadian citizen. The government has clearly shown that it has no respect for its people and has turned the people into its slaves.

We are in a time of great change and it is up to us to make the changes that we, the people, want for ourselves. They say that history has taught us nothing. Well - this is the time when we finally have to learn from history and choose a completely new course that will liberate the people from the never-ending economic and financial slavery we are all trapped in. www.ubuntupartycanada.org

Like an old Holy Bible you clung to through so many seasons
With the rules of survival in words you could still understand
When they prove something wrong you believed in so long you go crazy
And you're so close to folding the cards that you hold in your hand
Singing Holy Toledo I can't see the light anymore
All those horizons that I used to guide me are gone
And the darkness is driving me farther away from the shore
Throw me a rhyme or a reason to try to go on ... Kristofferson
In addition will the stoics have trouble with these alterations you suggest? Could be hard for eM!
Ubuntu is my rhyme or reason ...

And if I had a nickel for each time that
I've been put on
I would be their nickel man
And I'd sing a little song

They're only putting in a nickel and
They want a dollar song
They're only putting in a little to
Get rid of a lot that's
Wrong.

Well I don't know so many things
But I know what's been goin' on
We're only putting in a little
To get rid of a lot that's wrong
And if we had a nickel for each time that
We've been put on
We'd all be their nickel man
And we'd sing a nickel song

You know they're only putting in a nickel
And they win a dollar song
Oh, yeah, they're only putting in a little
To get rid of a lot that's wrong
Oh, they're only putting in a nickel
To win a dollar song

again, i hope that those who are very concerned that they have taken the steps necessary to protect themselves and their loved ones

They aren't well-informed enough to do that. Our news media, generally, are quite awful - and lying - and propagandist.

bulls**t on that easy absolutism of yours, the theoretical other that one can pin any thought or idea onto -- i think you're getting off on indignation :3
i'm writing aboot you, here, as someone who seems very concerned

if none of you haven't taken the necessary steps, then, all you're all doing is expressing your helplessness and anxiety and not showing what people CAN do, or what YOU are doing...the many, many possible solutions, ways of dealing with this -- even though we can't stop the force of gravity, we can harness it, so, we can 'fly' and 'hover'...even though we get burned by the sun, we know how to harness it's deadly rays...and so forth...

Well, I do something about this every day, many hours a day. I write a blog on the way our news media lie, on the very great dangers of policies we're following, and on the collapse of democracy into government by an oligarchy of billionaires. it takes several hours every day to write it - and several hours every day to do he media research. I expect I'm on a CSIS list. and would be ashamed if I'm not.

There are actually very few ways of dealing with this. North Americans live in fear and hate of people who hate us (with good reason.) It's extremely difficult to inform voters when almost all news media are controlled by a handful of billionaires - which is why a return of Harper is a real possibility. I'm not even sure there is a democratic solution. The people who control us would never permit that.

I've worked with a political party - and still do. But no party in Canada goes anywhere near far enough to propose solutions.

What's needed, at a minimum, is to return the the government management of the economy and the control over big business that was very successful in World War Two, and for decades after. But big business is not going to allow that. And big business writes the laws.

Seems our indignation is making you indignant! .... being that we are in a Next Federal Election Thread ... I have offered my criticism as well as my resolve to prepare myself accordingly should the powers that be prevail ... I have not given up ... I am not helpless ... I am not even anxious ... I am aware ... that includes being aware of the negative ... you can't fight what you refuse to acknowledge ... I am pretty much done my research now and have stated here that as far as politics goes ...
I am still an anarchist ... but now I understand the necessity of fighting FIRE with FIRE ...

I believe democracy works when people participate. Governments are made up of people. I read an article somewhere recently. I can't find it now - but, essentially, a majority of Canadians have lost confidence in politics and politicians in Canada. Apathy has taken hold. Many people never even discuss politics. They don't write their MPs, they don't participate in politics beyond voting, and many don't bother. So when that happens it's no surprise democracy seems to be deteriorating, and people feel a disconnect from those running the show. Politicians don't really listen to protesters anymore, anyway. They're just seen as hooligans, and in some cases they are hooligans - if you want to put a message across to people who are in a position to do something, simply raging against the machine doesn't work. We have to get involved in the democratic process, not just bitch about everything wrong. The Occupy movement was grabbing attention for awhile, until the vibe turned sour. Plus, the general public, even if they intuitively had some incling of support for it, were looking for clarity on what the objective was, and grew tired of it. If we want a functioning democracy we have to be part of a functioning democracy. If we don't get involved that's when powerful people can run it amok. And then we only have ourselves to blame. I'd like to see every Canadian voting in the next election. 100% turn out. That would be amazing. Protest policies by voting for a party that supports the things that are important to you, and hold them accountable by participating in the process with them instead of ignoring it and leaving it up to somebody else. We can't disparage the idea if we don't try it.

We live in a place, unlike, say, North Korea, where we are free to be part of a functioning democracy but we don't do it - so it starts to slip our attention. We are free to join a party or even start a party. So few people get involved, and then we complain. People don't even vote...when they are free to do so! Unlike some places where they are not free to do so.

I'm just thinking of people in North Korea right now...and how, if they even knew how democracies are supposed to function, and even knew how oppressed they are, would dream of being able to support whatever party or prospective leader they wanted and how shameful it is that 40% of Canadians don't even vote (apathy is as frustrating as oligarchy), and take for granted that someone somewhere is serving our best interests, or become apathetic and assume it's not possible, or just refuse to participate. If 100% of people voted, learned how the process works, and participated in our democracy and we still had the same problems, then we couldn't blame ourselves.

"This world is crazy, crazy! People are amazed by normal things and that obsession worries me!"
All I do is live like the majority of my people, not the minority. I'm living a normal life and all leaders should also live as their people do. That is DEMOCRACY. They shouldn't be aspiring to or copying a rich minority." Jose "Pepe" Mujica.

Not all politicians here aspire to or copy a rich minority.

What would happen if that missing 40% of voters actually voted? We can't answer that because we've not been even close to, maybe we never have, a 100% turn out. It seems to me like a very simple thing to aim for.
