I've started Sweet Tooth and it's quite good so far.
A touch of pandemic, a bit of X-men and throw in some Disneyesque feels.

Definitely worth watching, I'm disappointed I have to wait for a new season! Only 8 episodes (although somewhere were getting close to the 1hr mark). This is something I could have easily watched for many many seasons if future ones are anywhere close to this good.

Shiny Happy People has been interesting.
Not much I haven't heard, but it is certainly tying it all up together. It's also good to actually see the people and not just read a statement ie. Jill, Bobbye

As many of you have gathered, I have very little interest in contemporary visual media. I am the only person I know who banned her children from watching The Simpsons and who has never seen an episode of Seinfeld. But this ignorance is not all great. I never seen any Star Trek, at all, of any of the series. And this is like, manna from heaven for the big guy. So I have promised to start with the 1968 series and work from there. Holy s**t; I think I have given myself a huge watching project. OTOH, I've given him a huge reading project - the Bible, so there is that (he was raised Catholic, which means biblically illiterate, largely).

I wasn't allowed to watch it, neither were some of my classmates around that time. Looking back it's certainly a different show compared to the earlier seasons. It also never really was intended for kids, if I had kids I don't think I would bee too keen on them watching it that young either, my oldest nephew is getting pretty close to the age I was when it was first really popular.

Of course I had to go in search of this.

Honestly? Skipping to The Next Generation might not be a bad idea unless you like sixties TV. By far the best, at least of what I have watched, though I hear Deep Space Nine also got quite good as time wore on, though in a different way. It ended up as a serial drama set in a major war/crisis. OTOH, if you plan to watch the movies then, yeah, see the original. Most of the movies (the first six) are sequels to it, with the best of the lot, The Wrath of Khan, being a direct sequel to the episode Space Seed.

For more of a strong female narrative, I'd go with Voyager (the Captain is a woman). It does lack the "edginess" and action of the other iterations, but it's more self-reflective and has a lot to say about the human journey as well. My personal preference are the episodes after season 4 because the story took awhile to develop. Also the character "Neelix" irritated the s**t out of me. So unrelentingly cheerful and annoying. He eventually left the series, thank goodness.

Now don't get me started on the character Seven of Nine. The process of how she emerged from her hell is so interesting. Metaphors galore.

This link clarify my inaccuracies. She replaced Kes in Season 4. Neelix hung around -- a little more subdued.

Yeah, same problem as DS9. Took a while to find its footing. I was gone by the time it did. Seven of Nine is a major character in the new Picard series it appears. Nice to see her back. Jeri Ryan is a pretty good actor.

She is. Tough role to pull off so convincingly. Part of the complexity and appeal of her character is her indifference to her stunning appearance, which apparently jump started the series (predictably).
IRL she's awesome. She has been a political animal for decades and she supports Lefty causes like abortion rights. Love too that she appears to be allowing herself to age naturally.

Interesting person on and off screen.

The Movie Australia is really interesting in that way ... about being cowed as Lady Aster ... no bull!

To thunderous applause ... plausible! Diabolical cow hands as in Ghost Riders ... blue 'r country?
