One of the reasons for my gorilla avatar, and my love of simians in general, is a little movie series from the late sixties and early seventies called "Planet of the Apes". I have yet to partake of the recent reimagination of the series, but the trailer for the third part of the series, War for the Planet of the Apes, looks fantastic. The first two got rave reviews and fantastic word of mouth and the director of the second is back for this one so hoping this will a rare movie trilogy where all three hit it out of the park.

Tonight we watched The Eagle Huntress - documentary - in Mongolia, following a 13 year old girl who becomes the first girl to compete in an eagle hunting competition. Amazing photography - such vistas are barely imaginable. And amazing story of amazing people. Highly recommend it.

Was just reading on Fb that the character of Squirrel Girl has been added to the movie Avengers: Infinity War. Now it's an _absolute_ must-see!!

So, the superhero crowd seems to be having a good summer so far. Both Wonder Woman and Spiderman doing good at the box office and getting good to great reviews. Nice that it's two old classic heroes, too. Spidey ranks with Batman among the first superheroes I encountered, in his case via the classic cartoon series. Wonder Woman came a bit later, with the Lynda Carter TV series of the late seventies.

Spidey's great. Been a fan since childhood. Wonder Woman's more meh.

Sounds like an extension to Rae Stevens and the dark mystery of Bette beta than thou ... and the squirrels pas over de thigh ...

High ND calving, or just having a cow over discourse ...

That new Del Toro looks interesting. More in the vein of his Spanish films than his big budget US films like Pacific Rim.

Dunkirk opens today.

Unless I am prepared for a nine hour round trip I expect that I will miss it in theatres.

What? St. Anthony's doesn't have a multiplex showing the latest releases? :D

OTOH, you have icebergs which likely trumps any movie for cool factor (pun intended).

revjohn: "What with everything else we don't have up here I keep forgetting all the other things that we have never had up here."

revjohn's favorite verse in this phase of his life:
"He [John!] was in the wilderness until the day he appeared publicly to Israel (Luke 1:80)."

So when will your new documentary on Sir Wilfred Grenfell's life be coming out? After that, you can spend months channeling ancient Vikings at L'Anse aux Meadows in preparation for your next documentary on the first Europeans to settle the Americas.

Did I mention that the latest Spider-Man ("Homecoming") is the worst DC or Marvel movie I've ever seen, while Wonder Woman is the best? Or rather, She is the best, not the movie! But I'm rambling now...

I don't know about a documentary.

I think I could manage a whiz-bang adaptation of Adrift On An Ice Pan.

I would have to move fast since Gordon Pinset is, um, aging finely. Without him you can't call it a Newfoundland Movie. It is enshrined in Provincial legislation.

That project will have to wait until that disaster of a TV series is a distant memory.

Worse than Affleck in Daredevil? That is saying something. Worst DC based movie is the Halle Berry Catwoman

Gal Gadot probably does that to more than a few.

I have yet to see Wonder Woman though I have heard good things and have been pretty hopeful.

Comic con released a new trailer for Justice League with some foreshadowing. A Steppenwolf (I'm guessing) voice over is talking about earth being ripe for a takeover by Darkseid. No protectors, no Lanterns, no Kryptonians. Somebody is counting at least one chicken before it hatches.

Anyway. I am happy to hear another fair to middling review for Wonder Woman.
