It is always too early for me to think of Xmas movies. I unreservedly loathe them, pretty well every one. Even the ones that were sorta tolerable the first time around. Because there's NEVER an only-time 'round for a Xmas movie, and there's far too many of them.

I rarely wish to watch any movie twice, and holiday-themed movies are no exception to that rule. They also tend to be saccharinely emotional, which further offends.

Which is exactly why I like Scrooged. It doesn't take itself too seriously and it is anything but saccarine (well, it kind of saccarine's out at the end but mostly not).

Blackadder's Christmas Carol is another good antidote to typical seasonal fare.

Another sort-of seasonal movie in that it takes place at Christmas is Die Hard. Hardly fits the usual Christmas spirit of goodwill among men, though (cop trapped in skyscraper with villains makes life quite unpleasant for said villains while trying to save his wife and her co-workers).

OK, but still, would I want to watch any of them twice?

(Actually, although I'm loathe to admit it, and saccharine be damned, one movie I can seem to watch repeatedly is The Sound of Music, lololol...)

I would but I am not you.

I LOVE Nativity. Amongst many reasons is I find it neat that the actress playing Mary is the right age and pregnant in real life during the shooting. I saw that at the theater with my daughter when it came out so that was a nice experience. It's the one movie I try to catch every year.

It was pretty good. There were a few minor plotline problems with it though. Like having Jesus born all cleaned up, and without even an umbilical cord; and having the magi arrive when Jesus was a newborn. Still, overall an enjoyable film.

Geez! We just watched All is Lost - Robert Redford - sailing trip goes seriously amiss. No dialogue. One actor. Interesting, but geez!

Plotline problems? With the movie, or with the original text(s)? Do all these movies lose their meaning with the likelihood that Jesus was born an ordinary Joe/Jill, just like you or me, perhaps in September, in a regular hovel, to a dirt-poor 1st century Palestinian woman, who may very well have been raped?

I do not believe that there are any problems with the plotline in the original gospel texts, which differ both from the movie The Nativity Story and from your suggestion above.

They did get one I forgot: the stop motion musical The Nightmare Before Christmas (yes, you read that right, I said "stop motion musical"). Though that also ties into Halloween (basically, the leader of a bunch of Halloween ghosts, ghouls, and goblins kidnaps Santa in an effort to take over Christmas).

I've been enjoying the TV series Gracepoint. The child star is from Penticton. This summer I camped at the Harvey Ridge Hut.

I watched the movie "The Hunger Games" the other night . . . I wasn't going to because I thought it would be a show I wouldn't enjoy. I still wouldn't say that I enjoyed it, but it wasn't as awful as I thought it was to be.

I love Christmas movies . . . I've started watching them already . . . some are:

Nostalgic - "A Christmas Story
Teachable - "A Christmas Carol"
Emotional, but not necessary Sapper or Happy Ending - "The Gathering"
Funny & Cute - "I'll Be Home For Christmas"
Love Story (but also touching and funny) - "Holiday in Handcuffs"

Cool, you saw a real horror movie :3

I'm glad people are still able to make ones that aren't just 'boo! be scared/grossed out'

Watched Lucy the other day. Interesting to see the increased violence by female characters these days. Interesting premise, in some ways. It would be hard for me to get over loving Morgan Freeman's voice; it would be damned inconvenient if he pulled a Bill Cosby.
