This letter, (recently released) was sent in August 2025 and signed "Lawrence gang from India," and is confirmed authentic by CBC News via Access to Information from IRB hearing exhibits and direct verification from Abbotsford PD, which shared it with other Canadian forces.

So basically the indigenous nations on whose land the university operates gifted them indigenous names for their campuses. Seems pretty cool to me. Maybe Western here in London should talk to the Anishnaabe and other local nations about indigenous names for their campuses.

Choosing one language over another risks favoring some Nations over others.

Reality is that most residents in BC or Ontario - including Indigenous people - function in English.

Performative symbolism - just like the land acknowledgements - serves what function?
