Had fun teaching Sunday School today. The subject was Ezra & Nehemiah. Some sad news :( - I've lost one of my students. His Mom saw a YouTube video from the 7th Day Adventists arguing that Christians should be worshipping on Saturday not Sunday - so she has pulled her family out of the Alliance church to start attending a 7DA one.

Will be interesting to see if they continue attending the new church or not...we have a 7DA congregation in town - keeps changing as new ones attend but they may only LAST a month or so before returning to their original congregation or they leave church totally.

We're all praying that they come back. We'll miss them. I do realize that they have the right to go to the church of their choice. I can hardly complain about others changing denominations considering that.

Went to church early and shovelled there before church. Wore my sorels but changed into stylish boots for the service.
Taught Sunday school-brought my nativity hand puppets and we acted out the Christmas story ad libbing the parts. Lots of fun.

And LAST.

(Thank goodness for beloved daughter who got the bloody bird in the oven, basted it faithfully, made the sides and timed everything.)

I just had turkey dinner left overs my roommate shared. She brought home a whole whack of good food from Christmas dinner she went out to, and had lots left over 2 nights later. They must've made enough to feed an army considering how much she took home. Ham and turkey, green beans in some kind of creamy sauce, regular mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes, and tons of stuffing. Yum. I was the LAST to eat it and it was sooo good!

My (sort of now ex) husband's family is 7th Day Adventist - very minority in a Orthodox and Catholic part of Europe. Interesting denomination. In some ways, quite liberal - tolerant and humanitarian, but interesting rules and restrictions. Actually, one big reason they joined a few years ago, was because of my ex FIL's health concerns, and their more strict adherence to diet restrictions - like limiting red meat, encouraging vegetarian diet - and emphasis refraining from "sins" like alcohol and smoking...keeping in mind it hasn't traditionally been a health conscious part of the world. They're just starting to catch onto that. Eating rich food, drinking and smoking is pretty commonplace - and my MIL probably felt the community support for a healthier lifestyle was a good idea. Fair enough.
