I used to teach a course on the history of leisure activities. There was a tremendous outburst of youth groups around the world, starting in the early 1900s. I think the CGIT was far the best of them.
(actually, they were all based on sexuality, and a terrible fear of it. That's why age 12 became the common age for the end of elementary schooling, and why so many of these organizations had starting age of 12.)
But the CGIT was one of the very few that encouraged its members to think for themselves.
