I guess it's telling that we on planet earth can't agree on such a simple matter. We will still have confusion if some parts of the world stay on DST permanently and others switch back to standard time.

It makes Snoopy's brain hurt. But at least Snoopy gets to be LAST while making this comment.

Absolutely agree and... we don't do it here in Korea. For the past six glorious years I've lived DST-free, and loving it
Jae kind of responded to P3's post already. It's not a matter of the world. There are large swaths of the planet that don't do time changes. China is another, bigger, one (China also doesn't do time zones internally). As long as we maintain some kind of consistency with what the US is doing and keep things consistent internally, I wouldn't worry about the rest of the world.

It would be a very nice symbolic break from the US if Canada reverted to Standard Time always ;)
As someone who has business meetings and calls with people in the US, I have to disagree. We need to be consistent with them. I have regular meetings with people in the US Mid-West (ie. Central Time) and it's bad enough having them one hour behind, without having another hour due to Canada playing by different rules. Basically, any given location in the US should be on the same time as Canadian locations in the same time zone. We are close now save for oddities like Saskatchewan and Arizona that don't do DST.

"We are close now save for oddities like Saskatchewan and Arizona that don't do DST."

And it is still possible to do business with SK and AZ so it would be possible if Canada was all on Standard time

Possible, but inconvenient. I already have people in Central forgetting about the time difference and trying to book meetings at times that don't work here. This would mean expecting literally all Americans to be aware that all of Canada is different from them, even the same time zone. I think there are better ways to assert our sovereignty. The whole point of standard time when Fleming created it was to get rid of stupid little local variations that were screwing with the train schedules. And, yet, we still have stupid little local variations. In my perfect world, there would one consistent time zone system across the Americas. Global would be nice but there's enough distance between us and Eurasia/Africa that I am less fussed about their time zone system. Europe, at least, seems to be pretty consistent but maybe the EU manages it rather than individual countries.

I lived in the BC Peace Region for many years so didn't have to change clocks. The Peace Region stays on MST all year round. That means it is now the same time as the rest of BC. It will be with AB when on standard time. People adjusted. Sometimes we were three hours behind Ontario and sometimes two. People adjusted. There would be some minor issues dealing with people in the rest of BC. They were minor, and yes, people adjusted.

I don't think we should rely on waiting for the US. Especially now. I disagree with permanent DST. I was encouraged to hear a discussion about this yesterday and how staying on standard time would be better for our health. I don't remember specifics of the argument. It gave me hope that if we did stay on one time, it would be standard time.

I agree that staying on Standard Time is the ideal, but being permanently an hour out of sync with our largest trading partner and having US locations on different time from even adjacent Canadian locations is a potential nightmare (consider Windsor-Detroit). My gut feeling is that you'd end up with more, not less, situations like the Peace where regions decide to do their own thing (e.g. WIndsor and Essex County aligning with Michigan regardless of what the rest of Canada is doing). In the end, we are best off matching them and also getting things consistent internally. Unfortunately, the whole time zone thing somehow ended up at the state/province level in both countries and really should be federal. No matter what happens, I am betting we will still have some regional inconsistencies. Just not a huge honking continental one.

Such an old biddy this morn

Woke up my usual time
Sat in living room chair to greet the sunrise

I fell asleep multiple times without knowing lol

Is DST stupid because of the stress of change and the stretching of the Dais? Dazing ... Folk in relief find it difficult to catch up ... and some put it on everything as red is their character ... rheid intuit!
