That's hardly a factor. Look how many Roman and Greek statues there are of mythological figures or semi-legendary figures. Even the busts we have of Homer owe more to traditions about him than any reality. And his existence is open to question as well given the nature of the texts (recorded oral traditions) attributed to him. Statues of Jesus appear once he becomes important. That's what matters more than his reality or lack thereof.
But we have contemporary images from which to model statues. They existed, and we have ample evidence. We don't have that evidence for Jesus, so everyone depicts him as they want him to look.

Howzit that there are realistic statues and busks of Aristotle, Alexander the great and Julius Ceasar but not of a realistic Jesus?
Becauze it wazn't God'z will that there be such a statue of Jesus. The Lord came to be remembered for Hiz Word, cross and rezurrection. Not for what He exactly looked like

...We have also, right or wrongly, believed that maintaining Canadian voices in the media is important to counteract the very loud voices coming from South of us...
And I guess it'z this that I'm really questioning. I mean, if the Canadian stuff is good it should be strong enough to make it on itz own, without the government backing. I can recall working as a radio announcer and having to spin a certain amount of Can Con each shift. Some of it waz good, sure, but some waz being spun just to hit the percentage target

That'z the beauty of it
