How was church today?

Remembrance. My Dad served in WW2 from the age of 17 to 23. He didn't want it remembered, and he didn't want to remember it, so I honour his memory on this Sunday. I dislike seeing a national flag in the sanctuary, and that ghastly poem is poor poetry and poor morality, in my opinion.
We had Peace Sunday today.

The poem was For the Fallen
The anthem was Blowin' in the Wind.

I didn't attend but I am interested to know more about Peace Sunday vs Remembrance Sunday

Were I doing a Remembrance Sunday, in would likely forego MacRae in favour of Wilfred Owen or Siegfried Sassoon.

I remember Owen from high school English (grade 13) but I don't think I have heard his poetry in a church service.

Actually I am okay with In Flanders Fields.

*Gasp* The Calendar Police may be on your doorstep soon... or maybe not. (Oct. 30, we had a bit pf Reformation Day influence.)

The worship leader for the service I attended today used Christ the King Sunday for her theme. I have treated today as Reign of Christ Sunday for decades. Today I became aware of how big a difference that small change made. Her focus was on Christ as King, as support and friend, the role and the person. I used Reign of Christ to focus on the point of his life, the unfolding of the kingdom of heaven, the divine commonwealth, and our role as contributing, or not, to that unfolding. Christ the King focuses on us as recipients of grace rather than as co-creators of what is to be. The service made me acutely aware again of the importance of language. It was good to be in church, to connect with others, and to share in a good worship service.

I suspect it was not on the radar for most churches. In the reign of Christ there would be no need for such a day.

Too bad we are not in the reign of Christ. That's rather cold comfort for trans people and their survivors seeking support. And the LGBTQ community as a whole given last night's event in Colorado.

Were I a minister, I would at least uplift it in prayer, if not work it into the service.

The peculiarities of gender hostilities was mentioned in our service ... in relation to the openness of the light ideal of the Christ balance ...

One wonders who had a thumb on the golden balance for advantage ...

Good thought. It was such a "busy" service that the Rev forgot to mention the Life Celebration of a long-time congregation member. We'll do better next year; thanks for the reminder.

So did any churches acknowledge Transgender Day of Remembrance? Seems a mite more important in the world today than picking theological nits over "Christ the King" vs. "Reign of Christ".
Hillhurst, which is an actively affirming church, had one of their trans members read as part of the service, mentioned the night club shooting in their opening comments & mentioned both prayers. Haven't yet watched the service from my local church, so can't report on their engagement.

How was Advent1 everyone?

I was back with a former congregation and enjoyed it. (NOT the one rather well known for its progressive stance, in case anyone is wondering)

Oh I was referring to a particular church I attended back in the day. Some folks here know the story and I just wanted to be clear if anyone was wondering.
Yeah, I can't really picture you going back there anyhow based on past conversations. Well, unless the minister in question leaves and they swing back to the mainstream.

Is a retiring minister more laid back in the interpretation of hyperbole?

I've found that in the fossil group I run with ... we stop and process ... the actives believe we stink ...
