How was church today?

Welcome to Wondercafe2!

A community where we discuss, share, and have some fun together. Join today and become a part of it!

Also, my complaint about on-line worship? Communion. I don't keep grape juice in the house, because I don't drink it. However, there's usually wine. Real wine at 11 a.m. is just not my cuppa.

I did not partake in "online" communion so far. I am so against its theology, regardless of the view of communion you have. Even a very low, memorialist view emphasises the community aspect of it - and I cannot feel in a community with a bunch of faces on the screen. So the first time I take communion after this shitshow will be another cherished moment.

What I'm very careful to do about communion Sundays is to make sure that I'm watching live. Were I to miss a communion Sunday (which I have not, thus far), I would not take communion if it were other than with the congregation at 11:15 or something. I am very mindful that we are doing this together. The livestream chat helps, as well, to acknowledge others watching in person, in real time, as if we were there. I have a couple of times, on non-Communion Sundays, elected a walk (or a sleep in) and watched the service after the fact.

What will you commune with? What's out there ... out here if observed from the alternate ... omahg odd something further to divine-8 ... upstanding infinite icon?

Some will believe right through it! Regardless of the darkness ... gah ... Dark Pool road?

I have yet to participate in online communion. It just seems silly to me. But I dunno, maybe if I gave it a try I would find it worthwhile.

Do you have any grapes in your house @BetteTheRed? Some revs have suggested using a grape if you don't have grape juice. Or it's too early for wine. :)

We recommend people use the bread and beverage of their choice. Coffee, juice and wine are from some kind of fruit. Beer is made from grain. Water is a gift of the sky. All are communal beverages. Worshipping together can be asynchronous or synchronous. As a teacher I used both synchronous and asynchronous tools. There is a kind of togetherness with both. The Christian faith has an edge that is beyond time. Celebrating the same service at different times is an expression of that timeless edge.

I realize that it will feel unreal or fake to some people. For other people it is the most accessible way of sharing this meal.

Still an iconic communication of symbols ... something to question as mystic do ... some say crap! Free choice ... and thus some of us go ... entering the Levite side as a chimera to those remaining ... Leviathan? The word does grow ... especially with theoretical astral physical views of the immaterial that is substantially out there ... light energy wanders ...

My engagement with virtual communion has been at the General Council meetings that have taken place online. While it would not be my first choice - if there was a choice! - it was a familiar ritual and pause for reflection.

I have not participated in the on-line version of communion yet. I don't think I am evolved enough!

Our church is opening for in-person worship (along with the online option) for Easter Sunday. We phoned people to let them know, and most were very excited to hear that they had a choice again about whether or not to attend church. We even have singers' masks for the choir, so we will give them a try at our practice next week. We will still be distanced (30 percent of the sanctuary), overflow in the basement with the smart t.v. Looking forward to it.

My wife is watching the Sunday Eucharist from the National Cathedral in Washington, DC (it's Episcopal/Anglican). Figured that if she can't go to church in person, she doesn't need to stay "close to home". I am not interested in watching a service, myself. Would rather be there participating.

Three glitches with our Powerpoint today. I put in the words for the wrong This is the Day, changed the order of service after I made the powerpoint last Monday, and our videographer forogt to put in the video for the anthem into the powerpoint when he was at church on Saturday recording the music for three services. Other than that, the service went well. Our online version had two different hymns than the service in the sanctuary. Finished my message for Easter Sunday at church today and working on the message for Apil 11 to have ready for recording tomorrow afternoon. Plan to take Easter Monday off.

Still tired from our trip to Hawkesbury to work on our new house there, getting walls ready to repaint, getting a hot water tank replaced, having an electrician prepare a work order for several electrical tasks for the next few weeks, and getting our locks replaced. Saw more than 20 wild turkeys walking through and near our yard Friday morning along with a large flock of starlings and several robins and one other interesting bird, whatever it was. We are going to spend many hours looking out our patio doors once we move. About 3 days every second week for the next 2 1/2 months to get ready to move there.

Three glitches with our Powerpoint today.
Only three? :D You got off easy. I've seen far worse in business meetings and presentations. Mrs. M had to download the order of service for the National Cathedral service to get the lyrics. Apparently they aren't capable of subtitling their Youtube stream (which I am pretty sure is possible, the Boca Chica crowd monitoring SpaceX's Starship experiments certainly do it).
