How was church today?

Welcome to Wondercafe2!

A community where we discuss, share, and have some fun together. Join today and become a part of it!

There are essences that were never meant to be understood ... because shamefully the essence doesn't know either ... giving the incarnation of shifty Aeries ... similar to road runners or motive somas ... psychosomatics? Flying bodies ... of thought that scatter on impaction!

We had such a wonderful time at church yesterday. I’m so grateful that we had 9 people join our English language worship meeting. We used to have a faithful core group of 6, and I had been praying to reach at least 9 by the end of the year. It’s truly a blessing, and now I just hope and pray that everyone stays faithful.

My message yesterday was from 2 Kings, focusing on how Naaman’s cleansing in the Jordan River's a beautiful metaphor for how Jesus washes away our sins.

After the service, we had our kids’ program, where I shared a message from the same passage about the importance of obeying God.

We then gathered over some delicious kimbap to discuss our upcoming kids’ camp. This year’s theme is “Growing in Christ,” and we'd a lively and fun discussion. We also welcomed a new kids’ teacher to our team, which was really exciting

And King Jaimes declared: "do as I say r lose your head!"

The myth of the headless was thus initiated ... and it continues even today as nothing is learned ... there's nothing like it ... being mentally absent! Be rift or a' drift ... psychic vapor! Essence of chance ... in a vast expanse ... gravid holes that get stoned and difficult! All in the head they say ... but the head man was deficient ... of a few threads; mycosis? A stray concept from the DSM ... it rendered down to Jinnae! That's the spirit ...

So today was my second Sunday at Streetsville UC...mainly because I need to get a life here, having recently moved...but also for my mental health. Very small, but vibrant community. I was beset by people inviting me to everything and I felt extremely welcome. Lots of activities in the coming weeks. I feel good about this choice. Best of all, it's just a 10 minute walk.
If anyone has any connection or contacts here, I invite you to PM

I led worship at my church today. And a few people spontaneously clapped when I was done my message! Now, that could mean a couple of things....glad it's over, or glad to have heard it. I'm taking the second one, thank you.
That's so great to hear, Nancy. I'm sure they appreciated your message and wanted to express their gratitude to you for it. What was the subject and/or text for your message?

The people in my Adult Worship group always clap when I'm done my message. I know they mean well. I look at it as really they're clapping for God who gave me the message to share.

Yesterday at our Adult Worship service, I preached from Acts 16 about hospitality. I thought my sermon went really well, but in the car on the way home, Yobo told me that I'd kept checking the clock in the room too much. She offered to buy me a small timer I could keep on the music stand that I preach from.

Our Children's Worship service was cancelled yesterday because many (most?) of our teachers went instead to a worship/protest in downtown Seoul

Fine service today, although there was some last minute chaos about someone to cover slide projection, which my arrival at 10:26 sorta looked after.

Clapping is always good, Nancy; I'm sure you were inspirational. Did you use the lectionary passage from Mark?

Since I didn’t have my usual amount of time to prepare, I went off lectionary and used next week’s story about Ruth because it went with something I’d already been thinking about. I focussed on a simple concept: friendship. But in the process, I wondered and even questioned some aspects of the story. I talked about friendship in the book’The Happiest Man on Earth’, provided personal examples of reciprocal friendships and referenced Guelph’s MPP on his statement that we are in a crisis of care. I said that the care we exercise in our friendships could expand to be a care that positively impacts society. There was more of course…Bible quotes and even a quote from Winnie the Pooh.

Spontaneous clapping happened once before at a different church. I’m a little embarrassed but also pleased that the message resonated. And that God helped me find and deliver a meaningful message.

One of the most common comments I receive after delivering a message is…I listened to every word.! Does that mean that people don’t always listen to every word?

That's a great compliment. People don't always listen to every word. Sometimes their minds are on totally different things than what you're talking about. A few people may even be on their cellphones. Many people listen and in their thoughts are working on applying your words to their own lives. That they're really, truly drinking it all in is superb

Does that mean that people don’t always listen to every word?

Yes. My observant big guy told me that the rev had lost audience today because 6 people, including me, were using their handhelds. I pointed out that I was using Biblegateway to see if the story of Bartimaeus the blind person existed in another gospel.

Blindness is a popular mood ... a mental state when pain to the superorganism is allowed so part of it dies! Some believe it an OBI! You see this often in crowds ...

Church service was warm and friendly today, despite my having put it together faster than I would like. The situation of this group is a difficult one...a congregation that wants to worship together, but will no longer have their own building soon.

How large is the congregation? House church is a possibility. Some restaurants have one or more rooms beside their main area. There are many options for continuing to meet for worship.

The church where I grew up started in the gym of the local school, with the building being constructed a few years later. The UUs in Sarnia-Port Huron (yes, it's a cross-border church) use a community centre.

One of our local Anglican churches rents out space to those who are Muslim in our town. That includes daily prayers throughout the week.

We have seen local church services in rented rooms, private houses, schools and shared church buildings. My personal view is that buildings dedicated to one activity a week is a shameful waste of resources.
I agree completely. However, there are many issues that need to be worked through before such things happen. This group is doing its best....currently sharing space with another church although there are some problems from the church at the upper levels (not local level) that are making it sticky. Plus there are new problems with the sale of their very large, old building. They are in a state of flux, and handling it with faith and grace.
