Greta- something new-DKS posted on FB

Welcome to Wondercafe2!

Here we go again. People who do not attend her church, embarrassed by being part of a denomination where someone like her is allowed to minister, advocating her removal against the wishes of her congregation. Wonderful.

And there are some real frothing at the mouth in that thread. DKS is often front-and-centre on Gretta threads, but he won't come here and discuss her. He needs the protection of the Facebook group.

Sorry Missed a " t " in Gretta.

I wonder why DKS left here and now he is retired .Even retired , he knows every thing. ;):whistle:

Actually there are proposals coming to GC next week from both London & Hamilton which request the church to review the questions posed at ordination/commissioning - copied from the workbook, Partridgeberry Commission #24 & 25 -

HAM 5 REVIEW OF THE BASIS OF UNION, SECTION 11
Hamilton Conference requests the 42nd General Council (2015): instruct the Executive of the General Council to undertake a broad based and theological review of the Basis of Union part Eleven (11) which deals with the preamble and questions, posed as persons are ordained or commissioned, to ensure their continued relevance and effectiveness as we move forward in support of our ministry leaders.

Background From time to time in our 90 years the questions asked at ordination / commissioning have been amended to meet changes in our cultural and theological outlook. It is time to consider this again.
  • In light of dramatic changes, intentional and unintentional, currently underway in our church, we need to ensure that our future ministry leadership meets the challenge of change;
  • In light of the perception that there is a wide spectrum of theological outlook in our church;
  • In light of the perception that what is taught in our theological colleges is not always what is heard from our pulpits;
  • In light of recent events in London and Toronto Conferences relating to how particular ministry personnel publicly express their theological outlook; In light of our now more extensive "statement of doctrine," in both prose and poetic form, all honoured deeply in our church;

BE IT RESOLVED THAT Hamilton Conference request the General Council to instruct its Theology and Inter-Church Inter-Faith Committee, or other appropriate group, to undertake a broad based and theological review of the Basis of Union part Eleven (11) which deals with the preamble and questions, posed as persons are ordained or commissioned, to ensure their continued relevance and effectiveness as we move forward in support of our ministry leaders.
...............................

and from Toronto Conference - just a slightly different arrangement of the words - (same 'in light of' rationales presented, so not repeated here) -

Toronto Conference proposes that: The 42nd General Council instruct its Theology and Inter-Church Inter-Faith Committee, or other appropriate group, to undertake a broad based and theological review of the Basis of Union part Eleven (11) which deals with the preamble and questions, posed as persons are ordained or commissioned, to ensure their continued relevancy and effectiveness as we move forward in support of our ministry leaders.

It seems to me that the church would be well served to undertake a routine review of these matters - perhaps every 10-15 years.

The news of gretta's appeal is not new - it's been known for a while. One has to question who has put the media onto it - as we're going into GC. Media ... sigh.

Hey , not sure it is appropriate to bash someone who isnt' here to participate. Does it add value, or just sour grapes.
Does Gretta participate on the Facebook group? I'm not aware that she does, yet many people bash her there. To me, that makes those who bash her fair game. Especially when DKS has said he didn't come here because I had admin rights he didn't trust me with, when the documented cases of admin rights abuses have traditionally been in his favour.

two wrongs don't make a right. I don't see people bashing right now. If they did, I would hold them accountable if I was actually reading hte post.

Sorry everyone for my big mouth. I wouldn't have been able to post this because both Gretta and DKS are not here. I can't
post anything derogatory on Election thread because, Harper, Mulcaire, Trudeau and others aren't here.
Where is the line in the sand? Just wondering.

I see nothing about a 'DKS' although I know where it comes from. I would leave that out of it. David Shearman posted on facebook. Can we keep the conversation to the ideas posted?

Avoid stuff that starts to sound like gossip.

WC2 Code of Conduct said:
Courtesy & Respect: Community members will show respect for others - treating other members as you would want to be treated. Express your opinions about another person’s ideas, not about them personally. Keep threads started by others on topic if requested to do so. Respect the privacy of others by not posting personal information or images of another person that are outside the public domain without their consent.

While this mostly applies to how we treat other members, it would be nice if we accorded non-members some courtesy and respect, too. That doesn't mean no "bashing" but, as it says, stick to attacking their ideas, not their character.

one could always, when presenting the information, making a distinction between the 'facts' (what happened, what is happening), what one thinks of them & the possibilities of interpretation (not just 2 sides to every story, but 5 etc?), which acknowledge one's own biases?

"putting one's self down" can also help? :3

"Don't let the door hit you on the way out?!?" There are some real winners in that thread.

Though I think my favourite exchange is the following:
David Pollard said:
Anyone else care to notice that she is grabbing the ink right before General Council where there are serious issue to discuss about mission ministry and viability of the denomination. It proves again Gretta is about well Gretta.

I mean, didn't Toronto Conference initiate this in the months prior? And they're blaming Gretta for the timing of the appeal? How can someone type that with a straight face?

Look, you've got ministers who refuse to conduct same sex marriages. You've got to have ministers who bore congregants to tears. You must have underperforming ministers across the country, yet nobody knows the process for reviewing a minister, so they need tutorials to even get this going. And then, they implement it against a minister who is actually prolific and accomplished, and whose position on faith is moving in the same direction as society, and is uniquely positioned to reach out to a rapidly secularizing Canada.

But, she pisses off some people because she doesn't believe the incredibly improbable things they believe. She represents a tear in that protective cocoon of belief that some people need, because their own faith isn't as strong as they pretend. Never mind that she shares stories and values that are biblical, if not the actual beliefs. They would kick her out and lose the congregation, or replace her with a boring, mindless believer in a heartbeat, and consider it an upgrade.

All the while, complaining that Gretta is seeking attention. As they clamor to start and contribute to threads where they focus solely on Gretta, calling for her removal or resignation, and Gretta doesn't respond. As an observer, it's amazing to watch this level of cognitive dissonance, even on a religious site.

Natural wall building syndrome when someone acts to start it ... the other side rein-forces from their perspectives ... sort of like light countering gravid affections ... don't put you fete into that maw ... thus the soul as bottom line metaphor in the knowledge realm ... something beyond the mortal realm!

Many fall for it taking a life time to recover their infinite respects ... an adequate myth? That-isle doo ...

I think doctrinal belief is overrated; what we do is more important than what we believe. I am in favour of Gretta Vosper remaining an ordained minster within the UCCan.

The UCCanada can decide who it has as its ministers. If she was a Fellowship Baptist, she wouldn't have been given such a leadership role in the first place.

:rolleyes:

Old news that the media have somehow picked up on (she launched the appeal a while ago). There is already a thread in the UCCan Talk forum. Do we really need another one at this point? I'm sick of hearing the name "Gretta Vosper" and I follow her on FB.
