I imagine the gas company would shut off the mains in a case like this. Not sure about other flammables like gasoline.

Oxygen would be a nightmare in a scenario like this, too, given that it can make the fire burn hotter. Not sure who does home oxygen services in Alberta but this would be a worst case scenario for my employer if it happened in our territory (we only service Ontario).
 
Nothing worse that carcinogens that appear through improper incineration! Cyanides and sulphurous materials included although in adequate doses they can be anti biological in use that few professions understand in complex reality ...

Does that resemble a stinking abstract to those that would hide certain facts?

Why we have fireman's diseases ... I've lost some acquaintances due to things previously unknown because of displacement of observational complexities ... sub conscious or abstracted stuff?

If one abuses the forensic (legality) of the psyche ... will the soul depart the real state?

Possibly an abstract projection or smoky poke ...
 
Always recall that this too will pas ... a conception of thoughts out there ... beyond? Would that be abstract mental pain to those wishing not to recall nothing ... incident of two shadows causing a flash of recall ... that rye bleu bolt? Don't look Alice ...
 
The good news is no loss of life. 2 Babies were born in evacuation last night. More help is arriving. BC is unable to send firefighters as we have fires burning. Gentle rain off and on here. Wishing for some there.
 
It sounds like things are tough for many of those who went North. Food & gas is being sent up that way. Information is being shared that things are being done 'to make things better' for the people there and for them to not go back south.
 
A curious thought....

If you have mortgage insurance....and house insurance, individuals may be helped out...presuming insurance covers this kind of fire.
Why? some may have been holding mortgages which were higher than the house value given the recent changes in Fort McMurray's property values

Will be challenging times with the shifting nature of the property values for owners and insurance companies.

With so many people affected insurance will take time. After Slave Lake and then the floods there was also an increase in insurance prices. I expect that to occur again again. There has been significant property loss. Three areas have had major fire damage, with 80% of the homes being lost in one area.

Not sure how much the insurance will be a help for those with underwater mortgages. I'd have to look into details, but I think for us it's based on how much it would cost to rebuild, ie. money isn't given for the land value. If people choose not to replace all their contents that may be useful, although that is still a big form of loss. Not sure how mortgage insurance factors in, isn't that just for loss of life and sometimes major illness?
 
What a disaster for the city and the citizens. I'm impressed that there has been no loss of life so far - I'm worried that there will be though.

One plus is that my son is out of there along with several other local people. There are others I am waiting to hear about. My 'son from different parents' is still up there but it sounds like he is safe.

A good, long and steady rain would be useful for BC, AB and SK.

This, though in our case the replacement value and the actual assessed value of land+house are fairly close right now.

I've been mortgage-free for a while so I'm probably a bit rusty, but that's my understanding, too. It pays off the balance of the mortgage if a mortgagee suffers a catastrophic illness, incurs a disability, or dies and therefore they (or their survivors) don't have the income to keep up the payments. Not sure if it covers economic loss like being laid off or ones' employer burning down in a wildfire.
 
Ontario is sending firefighters. Army and Navy sending assistance. NFLD and Lab. sending people.

Calgary/High River flood, Slave Lake Fire and now this has been felt on Alberta economy.

While most home owners have insurance many renters don't bother with it.
Many renters in Ft. Mac.

I don't think I always did back when I was renting (it's been a while since we've been home owners since 1996 or so). Early on, I didn't really own enough to worry about property coverage. I might have taken out some minimal insurance in my second apartment since I had more to cover at that point.
 
I'm a bit amazed by the number of renters who don't have insurance. I was required to at least have liability insurance at my former place, I'm not even sure if it's possible to get that without covering one's own stuff?
It was cheap, although for those struggling I can understand where it might be forgone. I know of people who didn't bother getting anything and they could afford it.

Thank you Carolla. So far the smoke has not landed here but wind will get up

this afternoon and we will see.

Fort Mac has had its share of troubles. This is devastating for them and Alberta.

|Everyone has a relative or friend working and living in |Ft. Mac.
 
*sigh* update for up the area around Ft Mac - boil water advisory, includes the work camps.
