They are moving further away. Anzac is now being evacuated, that was where quite a few of the news crews and others were stationed when they had to leave Fort McMurray.
Now the centre is moving all the way down to Lac La Biche. I'm hoping that's good news at least in terms of the stretch of highway 63 where there isn't much along it. I don't think the operations centre would set up past a bunch of people?

It's quite windy here. Good chance tomorrow will be smokey. I ran a few errands pretty late so that I hopefully won't need to go out for the next few days if the air quality sucks. Makes me think of those who were stuck on the highway for quite some time with all of that super thick smoke.

"To all who are worried and praying for us because of the wildfires:
Thanks to all who are holding us in prayer. Wildfires and evacuations are very real and so is God's love and care. We have left our homes for safety and refuge in so many scattered places and have been received so generously. Right now many of us do not know the state of our homes; some may know their home is gone; and we do not know the state of our church building. So many have offered help. In time to come, the ways that help can be offered and received will become clear.
But as Christ's scattered body we continue to be one in Spirit and deeply grateful for the grace being poured on us.
May God strengthen all who are fighting the fires and for all coming to Fort McMurray to lend their help.
We do not know when we will return and when we will once again worship on Sunday morning or gather for our Messy Church which was to be this week. But we know we will gather again in Jesus' name. Amen. "
 
I'm grateful to hear that our fire department (Lethbridge, AB) are preparing to send people northward to help. And hopeful that people in other areas will adhere to fire bans and be extra careful with fire as resources are thinned.
 
It is nice to see how people are pulling together for this. There are jerks too, but they seem to get challenged quickly. This fire is terrifying. I can't even imagine dealing with it. It sounds like they are encouraging people to continue on to Edmonton. I think places like Lac la Biche are meant to be stop-overs on the journey.

I think this is going to be a long summer.
 
What a terrifying development...biblical in proportions

I started paying attention to that community when I was researching the oil Sands project as part of trying on another belief system

What a success story it was...ethical oil helping a whole community

And then the oil war courtesy of Saudi Arabia and now this...more proof that trying times will always be able to happen no matter where or what belief one has

Unfortunately those who went north are still stuck there. People who are in the smaller places along the way aren't really completely stuck. There are quite a few people from Edmonton who go up with food, water and most importantly gas and diesel.

I know. I thought everyone was going north at first because the highway south was closed. (I thought). I'd want to head to Edmonton if I were in that position. It must be tough for the folks who went north to be trapped like that on top of everything else.

It was closed for a while.
 
Flights are occurring from North of Fort Mac. Hopefully things will stay safe so that they can continue until everyone is south.
 
There are some people who are still in their homes in Fort McMurray. I just can't imagine. I can't understand.
 
It's surreal watching the footage of all the people trying to drive out while flames are spreading through neighbourhoods and sparks are landing on windshields. That must've been terrifying.

It's definitely a bad idea to stick around but I have a better picture of why they tried to.

I would likely be one of the ones getting out at the first hint of an evacuation order in any part of town - before it even got into town - because you can return when it's over and safe to go back and assess the situation - leave it to the fire crews to do their best, because there's nothing anyone can do to stop it that the fire crews are not trying to do - lives are way more important than structures.
