We hand-wash our dishes. We don't have the luxury of a dishwasher.

We do a mix. Dishwasher for plates, cups, etc. (basically, stuff we have lots of and can wait to run it until its full). Pans, cutlery, storage dishes usually get handwashed by yours truly (stuff that can't be done in the dishwasher, won't fit, or that we need more frequently than we run it) and air dried in the rack.

When you both work fulltime and one of you works a lot of extra time in evenings and on weekends (Mrs. M, doing research, marking, class prep, etc.), it's pretty much a necessity. And we only had one kid. I imagine my employee who has three, all young, and a wife who works shifts uses one, too. I honestly don't see a dishwasher as a luxury for a modern, two career family. If one of us was a stay-at-home spouse or I was single, I probably wouldn't bother. But that's not my reality.

I consider it as one. Yobo works approximately 75 hours a week at her flower store. Our middle son is a full-time auto mechanic. I'm a full-time student and part-time cashier and preacher. We have precious little time, yet manage to make do.

We all have our own ways of doing things, I think. I could probably do it all by hand, esp. with Little M gone, but then I'd have to give up my exercise time which, with my high blood pressure and diabetes, is a necessity to stay healthy.

There's always the option of leaving the hair that Godde gave us where Godde put it...

(I recognize that I am saying this as a fair haired woman who long ago waxed off her last leg hair...it eventually doesn't grow back.)
