Such an interesting read this morning - posted by Arlene Dickinson. Arlene Dickinson
The political strategy of exploiting religion that emphasizes an unquestioning belief in order to belong. It's something we're seeing more and more of IMO. There are many insights in this link that merit reflection, so I thought some of you here might likewise find it interesting to explore.

I was asked to address that topic at a neighboring church last July ... because of overbearing stigma ... no other would approach it because of the long-standing nature of the inhibition ...

I told them it caused me to drop out of university after 4 1/2 years ... as the instructors could not see any exceptions to the protocol they were teaching from the book ... considering many of the presenters never had any experience outside a closed institution ... defines a very tight circle!

Curious as I was mostly speaking, regarding water and its nature being variable as anything from solid to plasma ... what a dousing!

I was taught in private tutoring that water historically was an archaic symbol of soul ... and is sometimes indicated when there is a green tree above it ... Dan and his partner being parched ... a metaphor of wuthered ... (with hurd)? It was changed to wither so as to confuse the issue in a chaotic search ...
If nothing it makes a good myth about human nature ... annihilation of the one next door? Co opts are out ... bad style in a system designed for martyrs ...

If they try to do to you do them first ... even if you don't know what they were attempting ... no questions! Be sure of yourself ... persevere ... draw in the strings! Close up the ranks!

Forget the idea that there is a time for everything and a time for nothing ... nothing doing said the populace after being terrorized by the gods ... everybody calmed to nothing ... twilight zone ... everything rests as prejudiced about activity. Dead stop like a trainwreck ...

Just as the Roman Empire did in Constantine;s time. Christianity abandoned the Kingdom to rejoin the world of man, in direct opposition to what the Gospel of the Kingdom taught. Blind leading the blind in institutional religion ever since.

Exactly. The Roman Catholic Church basically replaced the Roman Empire as the dominant source of power and authority in Western Europe for maybe a millennium. Obedience to religious authorities became ingrained in Western Christian culture (outside of some monastic and other fringe movements). The Reformation and then the secularization that occurred in the Enlightenment and later broke that to some degree, but it still lingers on in many churches and in society more broadly.

After first rejecting the Kingdom and the will of God to marry itself with the world of man. The Roman Empire did not reflect the values of the Kingdom as a result of this union and neither has the world of man to this day. The religious institution did resemble the governments of man losing any resemblance to the Kingdom also. So this was a win for the Adversary, the second instance of anti-Christ after the crucifixion...

I re-watched "Jesus Camp" - a documentary from 20 years ago. Very chilling as a self-fulfilling prophesy. Got the US to where it is now. Those children are all voting Americans now. No ambiguity there. It's the Christo Taliban.

Hi Ninj - I haven't watched that video (yet) - but it does perhaps resonate with some of what Dickinson wrote about growing up in the Mormon faith (which she was expelled from, and moved on).

"When you hear political leaders wrapping their agendas in the language of Scripture, when they talk about spiritual warfare and God’s plan and the battle for the soul of a nation, I recognize that language. Again, I grew up in it. So did anyone who is deeply religious in any faith. And I know exactly what it’s designed to do. It’s designed to make us feel that disagreeing with a political position is the same as turning our backs on God. It takes the deepest, most sacred part of us, our faith, our fear, our longing to be good and it uses it. Not to bring you closer to God. To bring you closer to a vote and compliance."

I think as we wonder how it is that people remain loyal in the face of some horrible current social & political actions - this sheds some light, at least for me.
I am interested whether others posting here have taken time to read and reflect, or are just responding to the thread title & brief descriptors. There is potentially some interesting stuff to reflect upon in Dickinson's text, and her experiences.

Two areas that I particularly liked:

A politician isn’t your pastor. A campaign rally isn’t a congregation. A slogan isn’t a prayer. Praying before a political moment is not serving everyone.

And if you’re on the other side and you look at people of faith and see only ignorance or gullibility I’m asking you to see something more. I was one of those people. I was intelligent and loving and completely sincere about my faith. The architecture of belief is powerful because it meets the real human needs of belonging, meaning, purpose, community. Dismissing it dismisses the person we are inside it.

Then others took up that business ... and struggle continued ... on 2 poles.

These produced offspring ... and truth remains hurtful so someone has to suffer ... it is passed down! Dribble theology? In the meantime we cannot tell up from down, left from right or the front man from the back sider ... it is still a donkey ... it just follows how things de volve!

Such is the way when both secular and religion follow self-servitude. You can't change a system by following traditional ways.

I went along further down in Arlene Dickinson's face book profile.

She seems to be putting a lot of faith in Mark Carney as the best political leader for Canada.

Mark Carney has recently responded indirectly to U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio's emphasis on Christian heritage at the Munich Security Conference.

Carney speaking in French, rejected the framing of Western/Canadian identity as rooted primarily in Christianity.

He contrasts it with "civic nationalism" (nationalisme civique) built on inclusivity across cultures.

It applied during the foundation era but now that we are such a mixed bag, it is no longer politically expedient to stand on the old ways. To survive in politics these people believe we must make a new nation from the ground up, built upon different principles that of course are bound to fail as history shows. Even Pharaoh was smart enough to realize if the Hebrew people got too big the Egyptian culture would fall.

(Oops I wrote this but didn't post it yesteday!) Excellent video Delightful Life - thanks. I admire people who can pull together so much info & present it succinctly and understandably.

Dickinson is a notable Canadian providing leadership in business & entrepreneurship. As such she has participated in recent year(s?) in a number of focused discussions relating to economic strategy in Canada. She brings some interesting perspectives to the table I think, and does not seem to hesitate in expressing her opinions - respectfully and thoughtfully. Plus she's an awesome Dragon LOL.

^ its all part of the intentional design of Evangelical Christianity

Which this guy argues
This has always gone on, famously 1700 yrs ago when the institutional Christianity teamed up with the Roman empire and rejected the Gospel of the Kingdom which liberation theology is built upon. The human will of self-interest has always rejected servitude unless of course it is directed towards them. People can relate to indigenous people today being herded off to reservations just as was done here in North America years ago, but most miss the fact that rural life since the 60s was herded to urban reservations over the last century in North America for the same reasons, practically eliminating self-sustaining communities and leaving rural life as a borderline ghost town. Who did that benefit except the elites? The concept is to have it all. Share the wealth has become pure evil in their eyes, yet theirs is the evil anti-Christ way of mankind. This whole push for dependency upon what today effectively is only two corporations, has been a well planned out centuries old program now gone global and built upon attempts to do so the past, each time compensating for previous failures. Easy to see in third world countries, but we tend to miss what is happening right in front of our noses.
