Ontario announced that last night as well. Still have no sense of what the uptake for it has been, just the odd anecdotal tweet or social media post. Chris Hadfield, the retired astronaut turned musician-author, tweeted that he got AZ, for instance.AB is doing AZ down to age 40 as well. Announced by Kenney on Twitter, more info tomorrow and bookings for that new age grouping begins Tuesday.
The UK is currently studying mix and matching vaccines.....although I'm not sure if those studies will be done in time to help you. There are some countries that will/have been mixing and matching because they have stopped offering AstraZeneca.I'm curious about decisions regarding 2nd shots. We got Moderna and were told to get a second Moderna shot. However, that vaccine is in short supply now. What will happen? Without a crystal ball I have no clue! Having said that I seriously doubt the people making these decisions have a crystal ball either.
Yes - AZ in Ontario was a 4 month return date when my friend got hers about a month ago. Perhaps some in special circumstances have earlier second date? Why 4 weeks? I thought all were being delayed and even if not AZ has data showing to wait for 12 weeks is better than sooner.
Yes, especially since the blood clots were found in women in the under 55 age group.More confusion, announcement was AZ will be decreased to 40 starting tomorrow here, but the mass clinic in the city was doing walkins down to the age of 40.
There was also an article, sorry, don't have it open now stating which provinces would lower the age and it mentioned Health Canada recently approved it for 18+ - Health Canada did that before we had any shipments arrive, it approved both CoviSHIELD and AstraZeneca separately as 18+. Provinces do not have to follow NACI's guidelines. I do find it interesting all the changes by age and nothing by sex.
Here in Oz I had the Astrazeneca vaccine two weeks ago. It's the vaccine used for fifty and over - as we have had three clotting problems -all in their forties. The second vaccine is due 12 week after the first. Under 50's will be offered the Pfizer - but delivery isn't expected till October. So, you can obtain the Astrazeneca vaccine - with your doctor's permission if you choose to do so via consent form if you're under 50.And the 3-4 week timeframe for AZ doesn't even make sense, as 12 weeks has been shown to be most effective for it. I think it may possibly just trying to use what they have and maybe same issue as here with the hesitancy?
One of our 3 clotting cases was a man in his forties.......I wonder what the reaction would be if they said something like men 40+ and women 50+?
Relatively though, men still have a lower risk. One of our 3 clotting cases was a man in his forties.......
