With one provincial election our east recently, and one in BC for Oct. 24, plus the ongoing circus in a neighboring country, it does seem to be the season for it. I'm sort of hoping the next federal election will wait until at least the spring.

Me, too. If Trudeau tries a snap election now, I am not sure he, or we, will like the result.

I'm still not seeing much stomach for an election from the opposition, esp. now that two of their leaders are sidelined after positive COVID tests.
Erin O'Toole is self-isolating and feeling well after receiving a positive test result for COVID-19 ...

Kind of hard to campaign when you're self-isolating. Not to mention he'll have to watch the throne speech on TV or something.

We do down here, too, given that London lies halfway between the Niagara border and the Windsor-Sarnia border.
True.
Victoria normally gets a lot of American tourists right into downtown daily - slowing about now but it never stops altogether. A lot of younger locals work in hospitality. We've seen some community outbreaks from that already. With more crowds from elsewhere, comes more risk. Tourists mostly stay within the tourist areas of town. It's not a big city. Vancouver gets a lot of travellers, both business and tourism, from everywhere in every area of town.

We actually stopped there for an evening on a cruise from Seattle to Alaska and back (it was on the return leg). Didn't have a lot of time, but saw enough to convince me to come back someday. Apparently it's a legal thing. They have to stop in a foreign port and Victoria and Vancouver are the ones that happen to be on the way that can take a ship that size.

A legal thing that's been built into a tourist stop:)

There are also the Victoria-Washington State ferries, the seaplanes, and the Helijets - which normally fly in from Vancouver, taking some passengers that have come to Vancouver from elsewhere. They all come into the inner harbour, downtown.

Pretty hard to have a federal election right after the B.C. election

spring? guess it depends on how much he is planning on running the country into the ground with debt though

So the Bloc is voting against. That means the whole thing is in the hands of the NDP. I have heard suggestions that they can't afford an election right now so might find reasons to support the throne speech just to avoid one. Not having an election right now is, to me, a very good idea and that alone should be reason enough for Singh to not let one happen.

It would be very nice if the Liberals would craft a joint statement with the NDP. Pie in the sky, I'd also like the compromise to include a new electoral system.
