Canadian election and other political stuff

This is not the first time it happened in this thread, but the unfair nicknaming of public figures should be avoided, such as in the example cited here. So far as I know, P.M. Carney has not been charged with any crimes, has not caused any carnage or damage. We would suggest restraint in nicknaming any politicians of any party be exercised.
I'm sorry...."Crime Minister Carnage"?

That's so pathetically sad. Was "Poopyhead Carney" considered too highbrow?

Don Carnage would be more fun?

I mean, he was that cartoon pirate from Duck Tales :3

Who knows, we might have a re enactment of the Draw Mohammad Day fiasco here...

Why the purple prose over a nickname of a very powerful political figure?

I mean, they can take any hits we give them; not that it matters to them because we here are a teeny miniscule not important in the Great Power Schemes of the world?

Wyrd.

Carry on, sentients

Because I, quite rightly, bitched about it as an example of casual cruel and prejudicial incivility about politicians right from the get go. Before they've had any chance to show their leadership skills, their policies, anything. Character assassination for the sheer uncivil, biased non-point of it. Sure, give us jokes about Trudeau either, Mulroney, Chretien, Trump, he's on his second term, judge him.

You are are condescending person, sometimes, DL, and it makes you less likeable than you might be.

As you were, of course, sentients. And non-. Wyrd indeed.

Ahh I get it
It is your personal dislike of Rita so you can sic a Mod on her?
As I wrote, Mark Carney is quite powerful. He is a big boy playing in the big leagues and nothing we our tiny community can say will hurt him?

None of which is against our TOS or code of conduct?

No reason for the Purple Words or Moddishness

Again, any of us using nicknames for him wont cause him "harm"

I can grok people here being upset at Rita or the nickname, but that again I don't think is against our TOS or CoC

This reminds me of earlier in Trudeau's term when some of us here were quite protective of Trudeau...that eventually changed...

The mods made a ruling. Discussion of mod rulings is supposed to be held in WC2 News and Discussion so the threads can stay on topic.

Anyhow, I wasn't especially upset about the nickname thing, I just hope the person who reported it and the mods realize that this ruling could be used to protect a certain US president, aka the Orange Buffoon, too. And other politicians that we may not like. IMHO, public figures are opening themselves up to attack and doing so is not a PA or GA in the same way that going after another member or their chosen political or religious affiliation would be.

End of discussion, at least in this thread. Please return to discussing Canadian politics now. And, yes, I am the thread starter and entitled to say that per my post on thread policing.

Nice of them to leave Blanchet out, even though the Bloc have a good chance of being the third party and therefore a possible support for a minority. Not to mention them being successful takes one of the most seat-rich provinces away from the Conservatives and Liberals, making a minority more likely. Just because the Bloc only run in one province and cannot form a government for that reason (not enough seats in Quebec) is no reason to discount their potential influence. At this point, if I was in Quebec, I might well vote for the Bloc.

No confirmation yet, but both CBC and the Globe are reporting that sources say Carney is going to run in Nepean (suburban part of Ottawa). Ottawa has historically been a fairly safe Liberal area so I guess they are maximizing his chances of getting a seat.

You've got me a bit hot for a particular minority, Mendalla.

Liberal (preferably) or Conservative minority, with the Bloc as the supporter. Wonder if the Bloc (who trend somewhere between Liberal and NDP) would stomach the Cons in order to play that role.

I could see it maybe. It might help Poilievre moderate his own more dangerous positions (e.g. being anti-public health and his climate skepticism) and resist the more extreme, Leslyn Lewis wing of the party. And I can't really see the NDP allying with the Conservatives for any serious length of time like they did the Trudeau Liberals so the Bloc would probably be the Conservatives' only viable option for an ally in a minority. Whereas, I could see even a more fiscally conservative Liberal party like I am expecting to see under Carney getting along with either of the third party options.

Is the political climate degrading in to ONE of violent hostility as a mono pole? Huge Black Haul-eh spot ... may be only in the forest ...

Interesting thoughts on a minority government. What evidence is there that Poilievre would work together with another party? We've seen how well he has done so far. Also, by all accounts, he has not built a team around him. I know that's speculation. Still, he hasn't shown an ability to be a team player.

Personally, I suspect a Conservative minority would not last long for the reasons you suggest. At the same time, he has to know that his own political career is in jeopardy if a minority led by him falls and triggers an early election. So I imagine we would see some short-term, bill-by-bill deal making, though probably not a comprehensive agreement like the one Trudeau and Singh had.

My first impression of PP's kick off speech. So, he'll cut taxes and fix the country. How will he pay for all the magic he seems to think he will do? Does he have a magic wand stuck up his butt? He'll pillage our natural resources, and increase our military. Build all over the country. Rape the land. People who work hard will succeed. I'm guessing vulnerable people won't. "Canada First" is too isolationist sound to me. Maple MAGA. :(

Oh and what the heck is with his comment that the Liberals want the population of Canada to be 100 million.

Pulling stuff out of his butt, as usual, I imagine.

Really, contrary to what some say, we aren't badly off with our current population when you consider that much of this country is borderline for human habitation without seriously messing with the environment. Best we keep to a population that fits in the border strip and pockets like Edmonton and Winnipeg where most of the damage is already done. But I have heard nothing from the Liberals about a specific population target. We do have severe labour shortages in some areas that immigration will likely be needed to fill but that's more targetted, not about a specific overall population increase.

Apply taxis on the poor who cannot cross that magi margin separated them from you know what! Vacuous? Of course ... coerce ...

He said Liberal policies have made us more dependent on the US. I had no idea Mulroney and Harper were Liberals. PP needs to learn some history.
