I had no idea. I thought Kimmio was struggling to hold her own against a man over on the Trump thread. Not quite sure what that has to do with Canada's 150th birthday though. Looking for a way to bring this post back on topic. Looking... looking...

Once all those strange (foreign) people are here some would have to move out because of xenophobia ... a beut of a word describing them afraid of anything strange and thus they do not become familiar with such things beyond them.

Thus adepts of aesthetics for some that drift off and look in from outlandish perspectives ... probes from profits passed on as prophets gone by us? You wouldn't have known without the myths and folk tales that counter history written by lyres in ... people that can't get IT up to have some curios-itty ... a wee bit of intelligence about the other strange guise? I.E. a rising interest!

Inflationary souls that become transparent to the institutionalized ... they can't see ID (the primal energy)! Tis leviathan as it is wasted all about us ... tis out there ... as unseen .. a kind of idealism of myopia!

Could we then see who is inside criminal regarding the Golden Loss (Laws) and reject them from inside the system? Probably not because the innocent gets so attached to criminal activity when they see someone in power gaining from it ... thus it goes ... and the expression comes of power corrupts!

Is there an alternative or counterpoint to such mult-etudes of search for power? Tis an ethereal thing the answer ...

If authority gives power and corruption ... is there a way out of this kind of anarchy or just ending up in an enlightened place call ed 'eL with perpetual fires in the distance ... for those that can't see ...

Those could be heaven toeM, or a good tome to bury one's elf in ... between page's buoyed? That's mice tory ... a fixed terror to some of the all-rounded type ... inclusive of boobs and blunders ... blunders ... things Mrs. NG in the conjugal style? So it goes due to unseen desires ... only the object of desire is left ... to learn from what you got yourself into?

Thanks, thats interesting. Have you heard of " Canada in a day"? A movie made of thousands of single videos made by people shooting on September 10th. There is a youtube video "Life in a day" made the same way, but from people all over the world.
 
Another idea:

A multi-faith religious event. Imams, rabbis, priests, ministers, others each invited to give a short (maybe give them 2-3 minutes each) prayer/blessing for the country appropriate to their tradition. Intersperse them with music and readings from the various traditions involved. Hold it in a non-sectarian venue.

One guideline: no proselytizing or hating on other traditions.

Problem with something like that is, who gets invited and who doesn't, which traditions/faiths/denominations get represented and which don't.

Someone always feels left out as they cannot associate with other sects ... thus that isolated feeling ...

Exactly. There would be groups complaining. And, say, if Christianity was one of the religions chosen to be represented, which particular blend gets to participate? Protestant (mainline or evangelical?)? Catholic? Orthodox? Pentecostal/Charismatic? It would be a mess. I think it best if each faith group has their own celebration.

I hope so too Carolla, but I doubt anything significant will be done. The government will no doubt want them busy - participating in powwows, cultural festivals, dances and the like. However, it won't do much if anything to actually work with them to empower them.

I think you could manage it with a combination of demographics and diplomacy. Let groups within each faith do the legwork of determining representation. The CCC for Christians covers most major denominations. Have them put forward Protestant and Orthodox reps. Add an RC bishop and you're probably good on the Christian front. For Muslims, let the Muslim Canadian Council or similar nominate a couple imams. Ditto the Jews. UU is easy. The President of CUC. For Buddhists? Not sure how organized they actually are nationally but approach a local group in the area where the event is being held. First Nations spirituality could likely be arranged by the Assembly of First Nations.

It would not, and could not, be all inclusive. There is too much religious diversity. But all inclusive doesn't need to be the goal, just reasonably representative.

The CCC eh? I notice you wisely said, "most major." Of course, "most major" does not cover all, or even all major. For example, my denomination is not a member of it. Looking at its Members, I count 32% mainline denominations, 28% Orthodox denominations, 20% Catholic denominations, and only 16% evangelical denominations, and 4% Quaker denominations. That mix seems that it might tilt the group in a certain direction. It also includes no representation from my own kind of Christianity which is missional.

Another question would be - should all these faith groups have equal representation? If things are to be done along demographic lines, as you suggest, compare the number in some of these groups to those in others. I also notice that you've left out some of Canada's faiths which are also among the world's largest religions (for example Hindu). Is there any reason why you're including UU other than your happening to be UU? Also - is it only the largest faiths that should be represented. Canada is more diverse than that.

And they're doing a lot of work to get ready for this (increasing parking, repairing scenic roads, etc.) at the expense of people hoping to enjoy the park before the big year. I know that I'll be glad for the updates next summer... but this summer, I'm a little annoyed with all the construction equipment laying about and trails closed for maintenance.




I'm not much of a Canada Day celebrator. I'll be satisfied wearing a red shirt and eating a hot dog in the park if that's all our city does for the big event. But I'd happily attend Mendalla's arts & sciences event, too. That sounds great.
