Can we please stop misusing the name "Karen"?

Dream on if you think it will be according to your agenda. You don't even have a clue. You think you know it all. You don't.
You're just being petty now. I'm going to leave this now. Maybe you'll get the same realizations about this, that I couldn't help but see - but in your own time. I'm not going to press you on it.

Kimmio I'd have more respect for you in this regard if you had half a clue about what I know and believe. You're so busy preaching to people you think know nothing about colonialism and all it involves you don't stop to think others might know a few things. When we don't speak in your prescribed language it seems to confirm that belief. Frankly, it doesn't matter to me because I know what I know and I don't need your approval.

Wait a minute. Don't do that. Don't flip this. You're prescribing the language Northwind. The whole reason we're arguing is because you prescribe that Karen is an empty sexist pejorative and should not be used, and it seems quite evident that you would rather not have to have any controversy about why it's used, and that's that according to you. You have taken the position that if the language isn't your preferred language, it's empty and sexist. And you are colonial in your assertion that good manners is more important here, than the truth.

And how do you know the Cooper's ancestry?

The majority of black people in the US who have Anglo Saxon and other European names is because white people named them at some point in their history - or they had to use them.. Whether it was in the US or somewhere else.

I am not prescribing language at all. I am challenging one word and the concept of labelling. It's lazy and ineffective.

Not quite what I said.

Wrong. I love controversy.

Nope. Wrong again. I only said the term "Karen" is sexist.

And you are colonial in your assertion that good manners is more important here, than the truth.

I have never ever advocated for good manners. I have no idea where you got that idea.

How do you know she cannot be an ancestor. If Michelle Robinson Obama can be an ancestor - why can't she be? And I ask in the context of white priveleged naming that goes back to slavery in several countries vs truth telling generic monikers that ruffle a few white feathers. Even if you managed to trace her family tree back - englighten me.

Priorities like Karen are simply bad manners. Your sensibilities won't tolerate it.

Think about it. She cannot be an ancestor. Your tunnel vision is getting in your way.

She's an African American from NY whose ancestry is rooted in the US and her last name is Cooper. Why is it impossible that she is an ancestor of slaves or biracial ancestor of slave owners somewhere down the line?

It's very effective. This has been an annoying but productive discussion between two priveleged white women - it's made obvious who gets the point and who doesn't.

I have no idea what you're saying here. Are you saying your tunnel vision is effective? Hardly. And as to who is getting the point, well I'd say you're wrong again. But since I am not using your "anti-oppressive" language, you think I don't get it. I'm just not playing your game.

Because she cannot be an ancestor. Get your f***ing dictionary out.

She is most likely a descendant. That's not what I said was impossible.
A descendant. Her ancestors are likely slaves or slave owners. You are splitting hairs now - being the proper grammar police speaking of prescribed language, so Karen of you, given what's being explained. Sorry for my unsophisticated error - but it doesn't change my point at all.
