An offering: Give Thanks This Day

I am thankful for a lovely (belated) birthday dinner hosted at a local favorite sushi house by my daughter and her new-ish (like a year-ish) guy, who I got to meet for the first time. Seems a really nice lad. And curiously, lives (half time) in the same village in south-eastern Ontario that my late husband grew up in.

Grateful for the opportunities in my life when I was able to be out of the city & looking at the night sky with awe-filled wonder. Last night, at an 'urban back yard campfire' we commented only being able to see 2 or 3 stars, juxtaposed with memories of the sky we can see when camping or cottaging. It struck me that many people have likely never had the opportunity to see the sky brimming with the milky way in all its glory - would have no sense of the grandeur of the night sky. On the other hand, I suppose there are those too in our world who know nothing of the ambient city light that fills the night.

We are camping. The tall trees around us make it hard to see more than small patches of sky. Thin cloud cover earlier left only two stars visible in the patch of sky above me earlier,. The haze iss gone and I can see a few more stars. We are just outside of Oka so not a really clear sky.

Really for yesterday when I found out 2 brand new things aboot the world:

1. There are crayfish in a local canyon here
2. Owls hunt them

To see the owl

(Fortunate friend of mine who happened to be in right place right time...heard the robins...saw the owl...waited patiently...)

What a world

Today's thank you goes to my good friend who helped me come to Christ who at breakfast today got to have a talk with an associate of his in Ukraine. And then got to take questions from the rest of us. Very good to be able to hear that stuff. And blessed as well. A Christian baker wife and husband who have been trying in their way to help their fellow countryfolk.

Had my own come-to-Jesus moment. Rode a 40km mountain bike race today. Course was insanely difficult. About 25km in my hamstring cramped up. I didn't pack a snack and was feeling pretty stupid about that. Didn't think I'd need it I guess. Was really getting a little delirious when an aid station came into view. Water, sports drink, potato chips and cookies were on offer. I was able to get some simple sugars, salt and extra hydration in me. I'm pretty sure God set up the aid station.

Setting up aid stations is kind of God's thing, eh. The cross kind of functions that way for some schools of Christian. :D

Thankful that our journey to Quebec was mostly without incident. I took a tumble while hiking that felt nasty at first. Thought I had twisted a knee. However, knee remained functional, if a bit achy. My back, already not in the greatest condition, was not a happy camper, though. But compared to being stuck in the woods in a place where language is an issue with a sprained knee or something, I'll take a few aches.

And still many will question why that was done other than to raise capital ... in some places a pillar.

Then there is that other pillar ... sacred beauty? The capitalist cannot observe for being too far out in the alter vector ... that's all I can say as not knowing nothing ... or so I am told! In the fleecing some capitalize on this ...

Based on the rationale to keep folks stunned ... thus that blow ... and the command is forget ... and conscience departs, leaving us believing we have no appreciation, relationship or responsibility for nothing appearing ... a abyss or just rapture?

"coincidence is just God's way of remaining anonymous" Glad you got some snacks in the nick of time. I assume you finished the race?

Cool video about the barred owl! One attacked one of my dtr's ducks when she was cleaning their coop a while ago & let them out on the lawn, as usual. She heard a ruckus & saw a huge barred owl attacking "Gimpy" a duck who already had a few challenges! She responded quickly, put her foot on the owl to hold it down & rescued the (sadly) injured duck. Then let the owl fly. It hung around for a while, hoping for a second chance I guess. Despite her ministrations, dear Gimpy died a couple of days later. :-( Grateful she did not get hurt in the process!

Fighting through it is kinda my thing. I hate DNFs. Hate them. In any sport. You get up and drag your ass across the finish line.

In ski racing, I taught that to my racers. These days, as soon as you fall you're supposed to get up and ski out. It's an automatic DNF. That wasn't the rule when I raced. Yes, if the next racer was about to pass you on the course, that was the right thing to do, but if you had the time, you got up, you got your ski(s) back on, you climbed up to any gates you missed, and you got going again. It's a metaphor for life.

There is a mindset in some corners of ski racing that says a DNF or DQ is preferable to a bad time, because people think a bad time is your actual ability, but a DNF or DQ just gets ignored anyway. I am totally against that mindset.

To this day, I see lots of kids make a mistake and give up, even in a race. I see kids get mad and scream at themselves as they ski out. When my racers did it, they heard from me. You can't give up easy. There's a time to give up, but you put it off as long as you can.

My time yesterday was terrible. I was aiming for 3 hours and I was 3:50 or something like that. Five guys DNF'ed.

Giving thanks today for a (for her) relatively well behaved hound at the annual Blessing of the Animals this afternoon. We still had to sit away from everyone else, and there was howling during the singing, but...

We had a blessing of the animals thing today too. Just pix though, no pets were present. It was quite moving.
Communion too with a grape and a cracker in a baggie.
Who says United Church people can't change and adapt???

We were back to communion from a plate of bread, a tray of juice in little glasses.

And no, this was a full animal blessing, although there were also pics of ponds full of koi, and dogs even less well-behaved than Lucy, and the lady with the cat tattoos.

Lucy wanted mainly to attack the dogs (young, old, large, small, well-behaved, or not), eat the cats and bunny, and be irritated by the singing, generally bored with the whole thing, except for dog treat distribution. She didn't nip at the rev, which was nice.

Do the cat tats move?

(Good thing, too. I'm sure you still do things that causes your sweetie to fret?)

Hoosht that was quite the trip. How long was the actual route? I ask because there is this one in the hills above Kamloops where it is timed. Everyone has x amount of hours to go around this track as many times as possible.

I made it once. I much prefer downhill. That way inertia can carrynme across the finish line

I am thankful for the rare colours
Rej
And ulfire
And durple
Octarine (only seen by cats and magicians)
Flicts (even mentioned by Neil Armstrong)
