Prentice is speaking and still defending his decision to break the law and call an early election.

He already has broken the election law and that was one of the reason no one trusted him enough to vote for him.

It's the economic driver - or has been - in Alberta for decades. Oil sands is a huge part of Alberta's economy. It's the milk that makes the yogurt and the cheese and the ice cream, and supplies and partners with other food companies across the country and the world, and gets contracts with the ice cream trucks, and sponsors events, and employs people in all those areas plus the administrative jobs tied to it. I get it. It's huge. And I don't think the NDP will screw you over.
The oil sands aren't the major driver. Oil & gas is, but the oil sands makes up a small portion of that production. Back then, it was even less.

Alberta Oil and Gas then. You're an oil province. Fossil fuels. I understand you have your legit concerns.

Much of Canada is happy and hopeful about this historic change. I do not think Notley will screw you over. She will be responsible.

Like I said though - why bring up the small portion aka the yogurt? It shows you don't understand what went on.

I agree that Notley isn't going to do as badly as some are concerned about. I had a very interesting conversation with my parents about the NDP's platform on income tax changes. From what I have seen so far (and I'm not a huge political nut) the biggest issue is the oil royalties, those changes will have to be implemented carefully to balance the pros & cons.

Lol! Not reeaally socialist. More like, about 10-20 degrees left of centre. Liberals 10 degrees right of centre. And in Alberta anyway, PCs and WR seem pretty far to the right.
How do you define centre?

I care what happens now-forward. Not what happened 30 years ago. Including in BC.

If someone hurt you badly in the past, I doubt you would go along willing with them, or what you associate with them in the now.
I'm just pointing out what needs to be done to gain the support of that population - it's reality.

I understand. But Rachel Notley wasn't in politics 30 years ago, and Mulcair used to be a provincial Liberal. So, things are different now. Mulcair's not even close to a hard left socialist. That's just fear mongering by his opposition and old attitudes lingering.

Except you have to ask if the conservatives reflect conservative values, and not just supporting multinationals, and the .001% . Time after time. ND have smaller deficits and build public assets like roads, schools, housing, and health care programs. While conservatives and Liberals borrow and spend and leave no public assets behinds. The ALberta tories and the feds too have saved no money for a rainy day, while social democratic Norway socked away a trillion bucks with their oil revenue. Tories just sent the oil money to the US Europe and Asia.

@ChemGal i think maybe because I'm looking west coast BC eyes the median shifts as to where the centre is. ;)
There just is no set centre - it's all arbitrary and varies vastly depending on the context. Federally, the Conservative Party (pre-Harper anyway) and the US Democrats are often similar, yet look at the use of right and left for them.

I don't disagree. If politicians want support though, they have to understand and relate to those they are seeking support from.
