Ape likes this idea. :D

Nasty stormy night last night. Had a system go through around 1:30 that carried on storming for an hour or so. Heavy rain, high wind, constant lightning. Lots of traffic lights down and damage around town last night. No twisters, though there were warnings further North in Huron Country.

Wicked weather here in Tdot too.

Possibly an ape'L ET?

Sometime during the night (not exactly sure when as I was 1/2-asleep) my Yobo and son #2 ran up the stairs to rescue the cat from the storm.

The cat was stuck outside or just having a panic attack (rather like I was at the storm's height here).

Given that I have never actually lived through either a hurricane or tornado, I have a rather sad case of storm-phobia (not sure what the proper Greek name would be).

The cat, Star, went outside at his own request last night before the storm started.

It was indeed a cracker of a storm here! So much lightning - the sky seemed constantly lit! Wind didn't come til later & I was surprised to not see any real damage in my neighbourhood this morning.

My mom always hated thunderstorms - so we all had a bit of that too. Big storms would usually send all us kids tumbling into bed with our parents ... I think Mom liked the distraction of company; Dad not so much! Big storms when camping were not a welcome thing, although I do remember weathering many of them ... in varying states of safety & dryness :( As I lay snug in my bed last night, I wondered about those who were homeless - how they cope with such a night.

Came home to discover our internet is down. Possibly (?) because of the storm. Can't post much until we fix it.

Well, we had the open house for our school, inviting the public in to say 'good-bye' to it. I met a lady who taught there from 1950 to 1954 (before I was born!). I met former students and teachers, and some students I taught who tell me how well they are doing in life and school. It was very nice, but I also heard people lament: "I'm going to miss this place." It's a tough school --- always had a reputation for being tough and a little bit poor. But there has always been something else there -- a loyalty, connections between people, something that made it a very special school. This is a tough week for me because I'll be saying a real 'good-bye' to so many students as they head one way, and I head another. Today I wrote on the blackboard that "We will be enjoying our last Writer's Workshop". The students dove into writing and sharing their stories, booklets and comic strips. Even those who need encouragement to write each word suddenly were churning out complete stories that made sense. Besides feeling proud of them, I choked back a tear or two. The next two days are going to be tough.

I love thunderstorms, the cracks, the pops, the bangers, the lightning and the wind.
Our house has a old-style sunroom attached, and we would often sit out and watch storms roll-in and through. Our children grew up with us saying, let's turn off the lights and watch the lightning.

My nephew was terrified of thunderstorms. I had them at Five Oaks and we were staying in the chalet. A storm could be seen in the distance, rolling in. I had the kids turn off all the lights, and I got all of the kids to kneel with me, and watch for the storm...by the time it arrived he had joined in the fun of looking for lightning, counting the time between the light and boom, and well, just enjoying the power of the storm.

I think sometimes, the fear that a parent has can be passed down, and if someone who loves the child and the storm can introduce a safe way to enjoy then it helps.

I agree ... so I always tried to no let my own apprehension show. I do remember the year my son was born - in May - we spent some of that summer at the cottage - with floor to ceiling windows in most rooms & no window coverings. I would often be up in the night, nursing him, and there were many electrical storms that summer ... so I had lots of 'practice time' :-)

I love storms, and my kids and critters don't mind 'em either. My Lucy-hound will voluntarily stay outside in her doghouse so that she can stick her nose out to properly enjoy the storm. Atwood-cat only objects if she can find no dry shelter (i.e. the dog is occupying the doghouse, which is reliably dry...) and it's largely her choice to be outside anyway. Fireworks, OTOH, find all four critters huddled in some degree of misery in the den with me.

For me a storm all depends on where I am and how bad it is. Not usually afraid, but cautious. I've never been too harmed by a storm (have been pelted by some hail), but I've been close enough to some good damage from them.

I love sitting in my mom's cottage by the Bay Chaleur, watching out the big picture window in the living space at a storm over the water. #BayChaleur
