Yeah, we've doing well on the rain front here. On and off all day and was still coming down as it got dark.
 
The rain made a brief, faint visit here around supper time but is supposed arrive properly tonight.

Interesting science story I heard about tomatoes and potatoes. Based on some genetic work, they now think the plant we know as a "potato" began as a cross between tomatoes and a wild relative of the potato (tomatoes and potatoes are related). It was a natural hybridization occuring long before humans came along (8-9 million years) in South America.

Also a fantastic source of numbers of pharmaceutically active chemicals that could be helpful or fatal ... depending on application! Some information can be really helpful in dealing with these matters ...
 
I've been enjoying the swoe. It gives me a good workout, but i see how it will help me keep edges in check rather easily once i get them under control.

Was going to move leaf mulch from the bin to the beds, but was too hot by the time i was done swoeing
 
When our basement flooded in March while we were in Australia (due to the breaker for the sump pump tripping), the restoration crew transferred all of my dahlias and Canna lilies from the cold room to to laundry platform on our deck. We had a few hard frosts before we got home in April. I moved the 20 garbage bags back to the cold room but some felt mushy. In mid May I moved them back to the deck and searched for signs of life. There were 8 with strong life signs and I planted them. One clump had possibilities so I planted them together. There was one lily and a cluster of dahlias.

Yesterday we finished installing the new laminate floor.

It's a type of how.

3 sides are used for cutting.

It slides just under the surface of the mulch, gravel or dirt.
You push/pull and it takes out the weeds.
Very efficient.

I take the area i have done and rake all the weeds up
Saves my back

I have gravel driveway and walkway. I have a sense this will helpe keep on top of the edges. For now, it's first pass time so a good workout

 
A really cool tool. While it was sad to lose most of the dahlias and three of the four lilies, it was a blessing that some survived. I sort of remember one of those nights as being colder than -10 C.

Our first month back was weird as we felt as though we were starting fall instead of summer.
 
It is something to go somewhere ... often I hear authorities say; "you don't need to go there!" For no reason than to get out of authorities way ... as it branches off ...

Best not say anything further as one side of the pole will get assertive ... so I lighten up and become fey and difficult to observe ... transparent? Never be too clear ...
 
I think that i am going to make a 3-bin compost using the dead hedge technique.

Has anyone done it?

I have no shortage of branches from windfall, so, considering it. I also have a willow to stay on top of that will do the doors....

It could be, but normally more frequently.
First bin gets all new material added, and is stirred flipped regularly.
Bin 2 is moved to bin 3 to rest/ be ready for garden.
When bin 1 full movie to bin 2
 
I have a monster composter buried in the back corner that gets used for bigger stuff, and junk and I grab nice bits from the bottom of the two sides occasionally. My "main' compost happens in three rolly bins. They are fast, and easy to check and correct.
 
So, we have a friend whom we pay for gardening work; I am the expert, he is the digger/doer. We tidied and reorganized the back beds last year; replanted the rhubarb. It's been the year for fruit, the cardinals haven't left our yard. The white currants and red currants were plentiful, the raspberries did okay and two of the three grapevines are weighted down with grapes. And I've never seen so much rhubarb. Aparently 60 year old patches like to be moved...
