Good morning. Thanks for the hot beverages and goodies both. Red brought the doughnut holes, so does that make him ... ... hole-y?

(flees giggling)

My new neighbours are leaving their garbage cans outside. We have had coon issues in the neighbourhood since we moved in 25 years ago. Do the math. And they're away right now. I'll have a word with them when they get back. If they are doing to leave the garbage outdoors, they need to secure it better. A place I once rented in Ottawa who had the trash outdoors had the lid of the garbage can bungee-d shut. But ideal is not to leave it outdoors. We've always kept ours in the garage.

The raccoons in Toronto are baffled by the design of our new bins.

But they are still plentiful.

I saw the biggest racoon I have ever laid eyes on the other day.

The one bin of their's that's remained untouched is the green bin. London's green bins have a nice, solid latch on them that humans struggle with at times, let alone raccoons. We don't have a standard bin for regular garbage in London (and technically we can just put out bags, but that's pretty much screaming "come and get it" to the coons and other wildlife) so it's all in what you buy. My current bin is pretty sturdy and the top holds pretty well so I have not had issues with it. It's predecessor fared less well. Though I am concerned that their garbage is drawing attention and if the raccoons can't find what they want in it, they might be more inclined to try mine when its out for garbage day.

Our garbage goes out Monday morning. No putting it out the night before or creatures would be in it

Our 3yr old neighbour sometimes puts them into his gator after the garbage men have come and delivers them to our house.

He's pretty cute. Our hill is steep so his mom sometimes has to help with a bit of a push

Toronto is on its second design of green bins. The earlier ones were promised by the manufacturer to be racoon-proof but they were anything but! There was a special latch you could get which did the trick. But now we have new bins.

I can probably get away with that now that the guys are coming 8ish. There was a period where they were coming very early, like 7, and that would be a struggle even for me as a 6:30 to 7 riser. So at least the garbage and green bin need to be out the night before. And I haven't had problems in a while. But I'm in a fairly dense suburb so probably less wildlife than you would have around. Blue bins can wait for morning since recycling doesn't come until noonish.

At the cottage, we have a wooden "bin" with a massive, heavy lid that latches closed for the garbage cans since the wildlife there can be bears.

A fixed garbage day! What a thought! We went from 8 days (so the day changed every week, sometimes by two days if a holiday was involved) to allegedly weekly. Except they still move it for holidays. So right now it's Thursday but after Labour Day, it will be Friday. Green and blue bins get picked up weekly, non-food non-recyclable waste is every other week.

And before other wags think of it, are we "trash talking" here?

No green bins. Same truck does garbage and recycling.
With us, same truck does garbage and green bin (kind of cool, it's split into two "tanks", each with it's own hopper at the back), another does recycling. And we have two blue bins to separate paper from other recyclables.

Our recycling had to be separated back in the day. Now it all goes into a big blue bin. Collected on alternate weeks.

An 8 day cycle would be challenging.

Good morning. These raccoon and garbage stories remind me of an incident in Toronto in the 80's. I was staying at my great-aunt's when I was awoken in the middle of the night to sounds in the neighbour's driveway. I looked out and see a very large raccoon attempting to get into a garbage can. It was the old style aluminum can and was designed to thwart raccoons. This guy was not successful in opening the can in spite of his best efforts.

We'll be aunt friends today then I have to run off to a routine doctor's appointment this afternoon. I see him every three weeks as part of my treatment. He's a good guy.

If I ever have to replace my current bin, I might see if those are still available. The other issue I have with the plastic/rubber ones is that if get blown onto the road, they don't fare well against vehicles. I lost one that way. With the aluminum ones, you'll get a dent but so will the car. :D

Of course, aluminum are heavier so less likely to blow around in the first place.

I figure my body is like my car. Have to take it in for routine maintenance. As it gets older, it seems more probable that more things will be found.

Today is one of those days. Just a routine test, hopeful will be clear, but recognize this body is aging.

I struggle with negative voices in waiting rooms.

Is holy like an ID of delinquent? Something vacated ... thus courts under directions of tyranny ... and the quick buck urge ... all under a full Moe'∩ ... upended u?

Spent the day in Paris with a friend and tried eating some "real food" for lunch at Stillwater overlooking the river, but no way was my stomach ready for that. Fortunately I brought some Ensure and yogurt....and the baked potato went down well. I guess not all restaurants serve soups in summer.
Ah well, good company and some browsing through stores. The town is really a great place to shop and the stores are so cute, even with the main st. being torn up and repaved. Good day with much needed exercise to help rebuild muscle.

Hope your test results say the best things.
Mt C is definitely down in the mouth today. In one week he has got word that FOUR of his friends have just been diagnosed with various types of cancer, . Yeah, like us they are aging!!

Hi all. Sorry for not responding earlier, or for causing any concern.
It was a colonoscopy -- 10 yr repeat as my mother was treated for pre-cancerous polyps. As it turns out, I seem to have picked up that genetic trait. I am now been put into 5 year repeats as a polyp required removal. It will be tested of course; however, at this time, i would say it is fine.
On the plus side, it is something that I am aware of to watch out for, so , not going to sneak up on me (or shouldn't), and is fairly relatively easily handled.
The prep was not as tough as I remember it, but, then maybe lots of GI issues over the years from metformin have made me less surprised by it all, well, and GI days during cancer treatment, too. On the plus side, I now know how much I weight when I am not full of sh**.

@Waterfall , you were just down the road from me - 10km from my house to Stillwaters. Paris is a lovely place to wander, and I am so glad that you got out, and enjoyed time with a friend. I particularly enjoy John Hall Linens there.

@chansen - i never thought about getting passes to the ROM at the library . good to know
