So we see the Disciples return to Jesus and are surprised to see Jesus with the Samaritan woman ----Jesus was stretching the limits of the cultural moral behaviours of His day ----

The Disciples did not say anything to Jesus or ask any Questions as to why He would be talking with this woman -----
I think personally they had been with Jesus long enough to know that there lie a deeper meaning to His actions here and out of reverence for Him they said nothing ----they trusted that He knew what He was doing was the right thing to do ----

The woman then left her water jug and went into the city to tell people of her experience with Jesus -----She doesn't just tell them about her experience she is calling them to come and see this man who knew all about her -----

Personally I think she was so impressed with Jesus and I agree with Mendalla what she would have been excited to just go and tell people what she just experienced that the water jug was not a priority -----she not only tells the people she is calling the people to Come and See ----

So now what Jesus said to her about Him being the Messiah already in verse 26
26 Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you, am He (the Messiah).

So His Words are starting to resonate with her and she says ---Could this be the Messiah ?----and her call to Come and See was effective -

The woman leaving the water jug behind reminded me of the disciples dropping their nets in the synoptics.

Why didn't the disciples question Jesus about the woman?

Why did she leave behind her water jar?

Why were the people of her town so intrigued about the possible Messiah?
Check out the real human moments and meaningful truths in this passage.

The disciples didn’t ask Jesus about the woman because they were starting to see how wise he really was. When you're around someone like that, you don't need to say much. They were in awe, beginning to trust that Jesus’ actions went beyond what they expected.

The woman leaving her water jar left behind a simple task to go after something way more important: sharing the special message she just found. That jar didn't matter anymore after she experienced such a big change. It shows how meeting Christ changes what we think is important.

Now, about the people in her town. Her genuine spirit was infectious! A woman who was once ignored was now confidently talking about the chance to meet the Messiah. Her story inspired hope in them. It reminds us that when we share our experiences with Christ, our true feelings lead others to him.

This passage really invites us to think about our own journeys

John 4:31-45
The disciples encourage Jesus to have something to eat. He responds by using food and harvest metaphors for his ministry.

Many Samaritans are believing in Jesus because of the report of the woman who testified. They ask Jesus to stay with them and he remains there for two days. They hear His words for themselves and declare He really is the Savior of the world.

The unnamed Samaritan woman at the well is an important character in John's narrative. So is Mary, the mother of Jesus, in the story of the wedding at Cana.

Interesting to have two woman playing such significant roles so early in this Gospel.

The Samaritan woman, and Mary, whose faith sets the stage for Jesus' first public miracle. Each of them reveals a different facet of who Jesus is.

I feel a deep admiration for how their stories intersect with themes of faith and community. Their encounters with Jesus ripple outward, affecting entire groups of people. It's such a beautiful reminder that God's work starts with individuals.

What a rich Gospel moment to reflect on

Jesus' conversation with the Samaritan woman,is the longest conversation that Jesus has with a woman in the Bible....and being an " outsider" is especially interesting to me, because after her encounter with Jesus she becomes an insider by proclaiming Jesus as the Messiah to others.
And why would anyone listen to her? It seems those five husbands and living with a man didn't cause anyone to turn away.

Many Samaritans are believing in Jesus because of the report of the woman who testified.
This is called witnessing ---and when a person now has that born again experience ---and they witness to another their transformation ---it can be a very powerful tool to bring others to Christ -----

I had a profound transformation and have witnessed to others about my experience and some have wanted to know more about God from that witnessing ------My Aunt for example didn't believe in God at all ----and after I witnessed to her she became a believer -----

In the first part of this ---Jesus is telling His Disciples who is His source of strength and where He gets His satisfaction from ------

We all need to eat food to keep up our strength and well being ----so the Disciples are concerned about Jesus needing human food -but Jesus is not taking about human food here ----He tells His disciples He has food that they do not know about ----

Here again we see the human lens come into play ---they have no idea about the Spiritual food Jesus speaks of ====they can't grasp it ----it is beyond their pay grade ----Jesus has to explain to them -----

34 Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to completely finish His work.

Jesus gets His strength from His Father who is His spiritual Food and gets His Satisfaction from doing His Father's will ------there is nothing more satisfying than doing the Fathers work and relying on Him for inner strength -----

It is the same for all believers today ---Jesus is our Spiritual strength and by trusting Him we are well satisfied and nourished -----

The Samaritan woman have brought a Harvest to Jesus -----and the Disciples have brought no one -they are waiting the 4 months ----which is not what Jesus wants them to do ----

Jesus then tells this parable -----this parable is telling the Disciples ---is about the urgency of Spiritual work ---you can't hang around waiting ---you need to look with your eyes and see that there is harvest available and gather it ---the reaper is ready and able to receive his wages and he is gathering fruit for his eternal life ------so the one who plants the Spiritual seed and the one who reaps can rejoice together ----

The Samaritan woman --not only brought many to Jesus they ask Him to stay and teach them ---they then believed and trusted ---they told the Samaritan woman they no longer just believed because of her testimony but they now believed and had confidence that He is the Messiah because of what they hear from Him themselves ------

Jesus then leaves and goes to Galilee ---where he is well received -----

You are correct @unsafe that Jesus goes on to Galilee next. (v.43-45). He is welcomed there because the people had been at the feast in Jerusalem. They saw all the things he did.

Tomorrow we will look at the healing of the royal official's son.

There is an argument that witness by actions is more effective than witness by words.

I think here the Samaritan woman did quite well with just her Vocal Witnessing ---

Paul I believe used Both --He talked about his conversion to others and also demonstrated Christ like Character to many -----

Witness by actions is definitely productive in bringing people to Christ -----

My thoughts here
The thing with actions is being consistent in your showing daily so others wherever you are bears witness to your actions ------and that takes time to cultivate ---you don't automatically have a Christ like character when you are converted ------you have to cultivate living His character by growing in Christ's faith and maturing in your walk with Christ ----you have to be hungry and thirsty to want to cultivate this Christ like character and that is all up to the individual person to harness that character by staying in the Word and Doing the Word and asking the Holy Spirit to help you in your daily living ----

John 4:46-54
Now we come to the second miraculous sign performed by Jesus.

A certain royal official whose son is sick approaches Jesus for healing. Jesus replies that his son will live.

The official is met by his slaves on his way home. He learns that his son's fever broke at the exact moment Jesus spoke.

The father believed along with his entire household.

Why did the royal official think Jesus would be able to heal his son? There have been no miraculous healings in the narrative to date.

Jesus seems to understand that the people need to see signs and wonders in order to believe. (v.48)

Is this why He heals the man's son?
